The meltdown that is happening on the Vandy message boards

WKUs defense has about 4 legit players. a couple of the DL and a couple LBs. Vandy scored 12 pts lol. That defense will be out of gas quickly. They clearly got worn down tonight once WKU no huddled them and they couldnt sub. It was a major issue. They arent beating Houston. They are twice the team WKU is. They have real athletes on both sides and they may not even beat MTSU. Real chance they go 1-11 or 2-10.

"Wow I can't believe the negativity. I got to see only the 4th quarter but for a team of 5th/6th year seniors playing against a bunch of freshmen/sophomores, this looked pretty damn good to me.

Last year sucked. But it's over and gone. We played in this game the way I expected us to play in the first game last year. We looked green and we made a few mistakes but we held a high scoring team to a pair of TDs and an offense expected to have nothing held its own. In fact, eliminate 3 mistakes and we win by a pair of TDs.

Year in, year out I"m not happy to play well and lose----but the improvement over last year has me expecting us to be in every game this year. Final record may suck but the individual games won't embarrass anyone--and will scare a few opponents."

Typical Vandy fan
To his credit he's basically right. Vandy should of won that game actually. They out played WKU and gave them the game. They held a good CUSA offense to 14 points and 255 yards overall. Vandy actually out gained them offensely by 126 yards (381 to 255). Vandy is still awful and won't win anymore than 2 games, but a person would be lying if they said Vandy wasn't improved any at all.

vandy offense is absolute trash. It didnt look improved at all to me. They wer eplaying a team that finished almost dead last last yr in FBS in total defense and gave up 40ppg. Returned all their players on that same defense too. Of course Vandy hit a few plays. Vandys OL is in serious trouble also with some of the scrubs they have out there. You say they are improved? They got UGA next week. We will see then. They may not score at all. Feel bad for Webb. Kid will have about 150 carries by week 5 lol. He had 18 tonight but they were all right up the gut haha. In SEC play he may get 20-25 per and hes about 190lbs and has no OL or pass game.

Vandy is not improved. That is a terrible WKU team.

That was an ugly football game.

With adequate QB play from Vandy and WKU's receivers actually catching the ball, the O/U would have been a lot closer to the predictions. There was seriously about 28 points left on the board combined by both teams tonight.

Regardless, Mason is going to do exactly what I predicted--he's going to stubbornly play McRary for far too long, way past the point when it's clear he needs to make a change, in order to prove a point.

Yes, they are improved slightly overall as an entire team. Not so much their offense, but defense. They still suck, just not as bad, but that ain't saying much either. They will still get drilled by every SEC team, but I believe they will have a little better showing defensively in the first half of most games. That right there is where they are improved IMO. Don't get me wrong though, they are still looking at a bunch of butt whooping's, and are on their way to a 1 or 2 win season.

I'm not one who thinks turnovers are giving the game to someone. That's part of the game and Western made defensive stops when it mattered. At the end of the day it doesn't matter if you gain 900 yards of offense if you're turned away at the end. They couldn't run between the tackles in short field situations and forced McCrary to beat them with his arm and he failed time and time again.

Meanwhile WKU had 5-6 drops in the first QT that stalled drives. Down several starting OL and #1 WR missing 3 weeks of practice and then playing unexpectedly didn't help matters. This WKU team didn't look as good as expected but then again it's not the team on the field that was expected.

Insidore knows:

You're being too generous. This is a team that has no idea how to win despite overwhelming physical advantages in OCC games. We're done. You can mark this post. Jmac failed to execute in non-pressurized situations. He's not an accurate passer. We didn't make very good adjustments and Ludwig failed to adapt. You nailed that. That's bad coaching.

I'm calling it now. 2-10 season although 1-11 is a possibility. This game was the end of the season. You can hate this post, but I promise it is true.

We're in a death spiral, and Mason has no idea how to get away from the gravity of it. I'll watch as I always do, but expectations are off the rails.

Enjoy your weekends folks. death spiral is here.
chances he has been banned?

Immyaxl went so far as to proclaim the program as dead. He's not wrong either, IMO. Mason has set them back 5 years in the most optimistic rebuilding scenario (given their disadvantages) and possibly 10 years if they have to cycle through a few more crappy coaches before finding someone who can field a team with a pulse.

That's all very true. I'm not going to argue with anyone, but in my eyes, as an overall team, Vandy still blows, but they are ever so slightly improved. Not improved enough to make much of a difference though.

It's just really satisfying to see their program back to dumpster fire status. They got their punches in for a couple of years, but now they're in an even more dire situation than they were in when Robbie Caldwell up and quit after one season. At least they had a redshirt junior/senior-heavy roster back then. Now they have about three total players on the entire roster who can compete in the SEC.

I agree they're improved; especially defensively. I just don't think it was handed to WKU. That 2 pt conversion stop was a big time play when Marcus thought he was going to waltz in.
