The meltdown that is happening on the Vandy message boards

Just to go back and put all of this in perspective, this is where things stood just 5 short weeks ago.

"I think we all KNOW that Coach Mason is for real. And he is no fool. The expectations that he is setting will become reality--it is just a matter of how soon. I believe it will be sooner rather than later. 10 W's in 2014. An SECE Championship in '14 or '15. An SEC Championship when he has his own recruits on the field--no later than 2018. It is a BNV."

Hahahaha.

Mason is making John L. Smith look like Saban.

they are now saying on VM that they "will be back on track after they beat UMASS" HAHAHA UMASS very well may end up being the worst FBS team out there.

Good lord. In the post-game press conference after Ole Miss, Mason raves on about how Rivers did a good job.

Surely he doesn't actually believe that and is only saying it in a desperate attempt to win back the good graces of his team.

I think he really has wanted Rivers to win the job. He panicked and pulled PR way to early against Temple. Robinette wasnt playing bad but sometimes a coach gets his sights set on one guy and gets tunnel vision. Rivers was awful against Ole Miss but Mason stuck with him, moves like this is what gets coaches fired. This is going to be a very long season for them and it's only game 2

I'm almost past the point of laughing at them. At this point, I just have morbid curiousity to watch the rest of their season unfold. How low can they go? If they lose to UMass on Saturday, all bets are off.

This is comparable to Southern Miss's nosedive from 2011 to 2012.

I don't, f*** em, they deserve this for acting like spoiled brats the last 2 years.

Can't blame them. It's like the nerd who plays basketball and never scores. Just hitting the rim is sometimes a huge accomplishment.

I'll forgive them the past two years. Two years of decency isn't enough to cover two decades of sucking.

(However, because of Vandy's days in the SoCon, and competition that didn't matter, they're actually about .500 all time as a program. Just random fact for you)

Naw, can't let it go. At least Kentucky appreciated their win over UT for what it was, something that ought to be cherished since it doesn't happen all the time. Vandy went nuts making all kinds of wild claims about owning the state and declaring UT football dead, they acted like spoiled kids who'd been handed the keys to a porche. I'm not going to feel bad for them for wrecking a car that wasn't theirs to begin with.

This! I always rooted for them when they didn't play us, but after seeing how the fans handled a moderate amount of success.....yeah no sympathy for them.

Vanderbilt 582-584-50. I was shocked at your comment but when I looked it up, you were correct. They were exactly at 50% going into this season.

However, in SEC play, the Dores are 122-388-18 in conference games. As a point of reference, as a member of the SEC, Ga Tech was 114-70-9.

In other words, since 1933, as a member of the SEC, Vandy has won exactly 122 SEC games. Ga Tech was in the SEC from 1933 thru 1963 and they won 114 SEC games which is only 8 less than Vandy has won in 50 + more years.

Mason said in his latest press conference that their strong suit was the running game. The realities are that Vandy is actually worse at running than their passing game.

This guy is so out of touch with reality, he doesn't have a clue.

Disagree completely. Running back Ralph Webb is by far the best offensive player they have.

Their reasonably respectable overall winning percentage can be attributed to two words: Dan McGugin. McGugin coached Vandy from 1904-1917, 1919-1934. As difficult as it is to fathom, VU was, for this period, the sixth winningest program in the country (I-A Winning Percentage 1904-1934). This is the context within which Robert Reese Neyland was hired "to even the score." Fortunately, he did so and then some, thus banishing Vanderbilt to their rightful place as one of the absolute backwaters of college football.

the running game might be their strong suit but it is still terrible. It was terrible last yr too. They just dont have Matthews/Krause to take pressure off by bailing them out in the pass game.

I agree in the sense that they're trying to force a pro-style, power running attack with players (including webb) built for a spread option like we run.
