The logical events that could occur to keep Butch for 2018

Disclaimer: I am not for this, I want him gone, but this is a strong possibility.

A scope goat has to be had, the obvious choice is Scott. Scott gets fired, Currie gives Butch an ultimatum to either go get a top tier OC and let him run the offense or he will be fired as well. Butch is stubborn not stupid, butch goes and hired a top tier OC to push this offense off the ground.

With pieces in place Butch could easily win 10 next season on the backs of Shoop and new OC. I think this move would push butch into an elite status where he can do team management and Recruiting.

Well, the goal here is to make UT a winning respectable program again. I firmly believe Butch's inablility to adapt and hire a big time OC is what has and will end his head coaching status.

If he hires a big time guy and we start winning then fine, but my guess is the inept coaching runs deeper than butch. If it didn't you'd see developed talent and bad in game coaching.

Instead of Scott could they turn to this scope goat to blame instead?

At which point Jones realized Scott wasn't going to get it done he should have taken over as OC. Though not sure how much difference it could have made. That's his only current move he can do...leaving Scott as OC and Butch calls plays. No one coming on board a sinking ship.

I think the problems go deeper than the OC.

Player development is a major issue. Game day coaching is a major issue.

A good OC would avoid a coach in Butch's situation.

Butch had the opportunity to hire an OC. Scott was his choice. Now, he gets to fall on the sword for his own miscalculation.

Or...plenty of part time armchair coaches on VN know enough to try jet sweeps, reverses to Byrd, passes past 3 yards and getting Kelky more than single digit touches...esp in red zone...if they ever get there. Oh, while am at it, why not snap on first sound to prevent yet another OL motion penalty in the red zone.

In 2008, Fulmer hired Dave Clawson. Seemed to be a decent hire at the time but we all know how that worked out as Tennessee finished 5-7. The UT offense avg. 17 ppg and finished the season ranked 111th out of 120 teams in Div 1.

So to answer your possible theory, no. I can't think of any OC that would come here knowing it's a one and done situation.

This is funny on many levels. No OC worth a dang is coming here.

And there ain’t a chance in hell of Butch winning 10 games much less “easily”.

There are NO logical events that can allow Botch Jones to coach at UT next season. Period. I can think of no logical event that would allow him to coach tomorrow. The wheels are turning. It is only a matter of locking down the final plan(s).

You lost me at “win on the back of Shoop.” Since when has Shoop been reliable? In fact, Shoop’s defenses have been a dismal failure. The offense was actually outstanding last year, the defense has been terrible for Shoop’s entire tenure. There won’t be any future winning on the back of Shoop.

Because of an inept offense Shoop's Troops are gassed by the middle of the 3Rd quarter. :yes:
