Was by Majors. His first 4 years were 4-7, 5-5-1, 7-5 and 5-6. This was while Alabama and Georgia were on top of College Football.

You’d think he would’ve been on the hot seat going into 1981. We started that year with road losses to Georgia (44-0) and USC (42-7). Nowadays he would’ve been fired by then. But UT stuck with him and they finished 8-4. It still took him 4 more years to win the SEC. But the program was at least stabilized.

This is going to take longer than most of us are going to want.

CJM was a Tennessee boy who was uber successful as a player here.

CJM had a NC on his resume. As a Head Coach

he had and deserved a longer leash than a former DC.

I totally agree. But since Pruitt is not going to get as long a leash, can it be done? Look at Kentucky. They’ve been a coaches graveyard for ages. Stoops goes 2-10 his first year, but they’ve been more competitive since then. Now in year 6, they may be able to post their first winning SEC record since 1977. It takes time.

Please, Please dont compare us to Kentucky in football. Idgas if they beat our butts again this year ( they likely will). If we have to resort to using UK as an example of where we might be if we are patient, then let's just focus on basketball.

Kentucky...geeze

Can't compare the SEC now with the SEC then. Other schools have hired recruiters and those schools have all of the top players. You could make a top SEC team from their 2nd team players. In the past those players went elsewhere for playing time, now they are willing to wait their turn and sit the bench. Hard to make a quality team with players who could not make our opponents 2nd team. Even worse when they are not coached up.

Why dies everyone want to use Kentucky as an example when their celing is 8-4? Are some of you that conditioned to losing now that you wohld just acceot 8-4 every uear and call that success?

If we hired a coach with Major's pedigree, it might be easier to be patient.

Let me explain it for all of you geniuses out there. The point of the OP and the Kentucky example was to... wait for it.. wait for it...

To give Pruitt more than a few minutes to turn around this dumpster fire of a team that Butch left for him to coach. Good night, Quarte Sapp refused to go into the game. Pruitt told him to GET LOST. Kentucky is a great example of a school giving a coach more than a couple of years to turn it around.

You charge premium prices then you have to deal with premium expectations. KY doesn’t charge $95 for one ticket. I think the frustration with most fans is that we have been told for 10 years “it will be 3-4 years” that gets old after a while. The fans were there last night and were ready for anything to get excited about, but some where the school has to realize they are charging a lot of money and they need to get this right.

Wrong!!!!! This mentality is why we are where we are. I don't give a flip who you are if your the coach of a team and have been tasked with rebuilding a program that has stunk for many years then you need the appropriate amount of time to do the job. This revuild looks like it's gonna take a complete roster change and bigger than that is it needs a mental rebuild. That takes time. Like someone else said in another thread, if we had hired Nick Saban and he was coaching this team we still would see the same results.

But this is a DC with a great pedigree that can recruit and has a couple of nattys on his resume as an assistant. The stupidity sure is strong with some of these fans.

Riiiiight

we need less 4 and 5 stars and more time!!

Did Saint Nick's teams come out flat, unmotivated and slow every game? I seriously can't believe any reasonable person would compare CJP with Nick. The Kool-aid is strong for some of ya.

PS. Did it take Saint Nick years and years and a complete roster change to be successful? I'll hang up and listen.

Should have hired Les Miles and taken the same route we did with the basketball team. Hire a proven winner to come in and stabilize for 5-6 years and groom someone to take his place. Les Miles would probably have us sitting at 4-0 right now.

Emphasis on DC in your post.

It would be stupid to not understand why Vol legend with a NC as a HEAD COACH would get more leash and time to turn it around than a Bama guy with zero HEAD COACHING experience would.

You are correct about one thing though; the stupidity is strong around here. I would say it's at about the same strength as the kool aid and the prescription of your Orange colored glasses.

Well hear is the problem with this rebuild. We've already went through 3 before this one. Problem is Pruitt has no track record of success other than being a pretty good DC. The patience has ran thin at this point and the fans are already souring on it somewhat. It's more than wins and losses this year and most rational fans knew that. We figured a loss to WV was possible and they beat us pretty handily. Florida was supposed to be a more even matchup and we couldn't get out of our own way. I just hope they at least improve over the course of the year. It's about all you can expect now.

Pruitts will be the best watch and see or don't I don't care, we may need to rid some of the fair weather fans that have zero knowledge of the game besides the final score anyway. This staff is full of great coaches but not miracle workers unfortunately for you "fans"

Get me 4million per year and I'll happily make a fool of myself.

But I'm trying to see where i claimed to be able to rebuild. I dont think i did. However you have made me think I should dust off the ol resume and send it in when Pruitt is let go. I would bet I'll have an outside shot at landing the gig. I would take the job for 500k per year with no buyout. This admin would effing love me.😁😁😁

Dude....fair weather..Are you freaking awake?

We sucked last year, were embarrassed 3 weeks ago and showed up en masse fired up and ready to rock last night (more than can be said for the team or staff) and you say we are fair weather fans?

get a clue brother.

We would be better off getting rid of the kool aid drinkers.
