Trot lines are for subsistence fishing. Many places which support sports angling outlaw them. I found one on the Tugaloo River, years ago. Glad I spotted it before it entangled my boat motor.

Yep. Most trot lines are for catfish. Some anglers don't care for cats on rod & reel, but I've felt the fight from flatheads, blues, and channel cats. When a big flathead roils, it's sportin'. :yes:
Sadly, my wife thinks catfish are "trash eaters" and avoids them as table fare. I cannot dissuade her of this prejudice, even though she declares foreign species of cats tasty (these are sold under names which don't make evident that their catfish).
