The Lane Kiffin Hypothetical

I never expected him to win a BCS Title every season and that’s completely unrealistic. That being said he averaged 9 wins a season and had UT competing for the East most seasons at this point that’s looking pretty good.
If you compare it to what we've had since that is true. If you compare it to what we were accustomed to and what we were expecting there was a huge drop off. We had a slight uptick in our fortunes when cutcliffe came back and mentored Erik Ainge for one year. I would have waited one more year to fire Fulmer but he had a definite decrease in quality of recruits his last couple of classes have a lot of two stars mixed in with the usual quality of recruit. We were getting into a situation where it was definitely going to be an uphill battle to get back to competitiveness that's why the firing was necessary. And at that time everyone knew it not just Hamilton.

If he hadn’t bolted THEN, he would have bolted LATER. USC’s on their third HC since Carroll left (not including Ogre’s interim stint). We’d have been an 8 or 9 win a season pace until it happened imo.

So our troubles really began when he bolted for USC. We had what I believed at the time was a pretty good season until we were thumped in our bowl game. The season ended and we had plenty of momentum going into the off-season. Then the unthinkable happened, and from there was the downward spiral.

So I ask you this...

Had Pete Carroll stayed at USC, would Lane still be coaching us today? How would it all have played out?
Too many what ifs

The mistake was bringing in Dooley instead of just naming an interim. Just my opinion. After Dooley the job was a joke and only further spiraled after Jones with his dumb slogans.

Here is the deal, Lane Kiffin should have never been hired. Flashback to 2009, we were still very relevant in CF. We won the East in 2007. Prior to 2008, the only bad season we had was in 2005. There is no way a really good coach wouldnt have loved to come to UT. But what happened? That dumbass Hamilton hires a loser in Lame Kiffin. That started our downfall and set us on the path to where we are today.

Would Kiffin have stayed here if Carroll would have stayed? Probably. But I dont think he would have ended up being good. Yeah he is good now, but thats after stops at USC and Alabama. Highly doubtful that he would have been very good if he stayed here.
