I like Krystals little burger a lot, but the fries are usually undercooked or something.

amen. while it may not be some crappy mini burger, nothing tops Pal's for a fast food burger.

But there are a plethora of good mom and pop diners with good burgers. My favorite would be Aunt B's on the Milligan Hwy.

I'm related to Pal Barger, but I don't care for his food, except for shakes.

For a burger, there is the Burger Bar - Bristol, Kingsport's Best Burgers, & Pearless Steakhouse - Johnson City.

You like the burger bar a lot more than I do, and peerless has a good burger, but gentlemen jim's in jonesborough and aunt b's are better (and cheaper)

you just became totally more awesome in my book.

when i went to ETSU, the choices for burgers near campus were Wendy's, Pal's, or whatever you could scrounge up in the student center. there wasn't anything else.

then, when i worked at the Sears in the mall, we ate Pal's in the food court, like everyday, for lunch.

the free refills on the sweat tea all day long was always the deal maker for me.

one time, i drove to JC just to eat Pal's for lunch. i mean we played golf too, but that took a backseat to Pal's.

I've done stupid stuff like that as well. I made a trip to Winstom-Salem one time just for Chipotle. I also really upset my mother while in grad school. I came home for just two days and really really wanted a Greg's Pizza and a trip to the Firehouse instead of her cooking something. She's a fabulous cook, but I was missing Greg's and real bbq.

i've had Chipotle a few times and i know people who swear by it, but i think Salsarita's is much much better.

i like Firehouse. i can understand that.

Pal's is the real deal Holifield. That flavoring on the fries is what I go for and the big ole tea.

Back in High School in first period you'd see at least 40-50 people with those big ass cups walking around school. Every morning, no matter if I was late or not I'd go by Pal's and get a Sausage Biscuit, Cheesy Tots, and a Ice Tea Light Ice.

Since everyone here talking is familar with the Tri-Cities area (volfanbill, doozer, broyles) have any of you all ate at a little tiny dinner over in the Hunter Community called Betty's Burger Hut?

Yes a couple times. I used to get up Stony Creek regularly, and I liked the food there. Reasonably priced. Did you ever go to the egg fight in Peters Hollow?

No, but I have heard of it. I want to say some of my family went one year when I was in town.

If you ever go back to Betty's Burger Hut get the Hamburger Steak Diner, extra gravy.

It's a hamburger steak, fries, and brown gravy poured on top of it with some toast. I cannot go to the Tri-Cities without going over there and getting that.

They used to have a great hamburger steak dinner at Sam's Apex in Johnson City near ETSU. Not sure if it's still open.

Krystal was one of the things the kids really missed when we moved from Chattanooga to Dallas in 1980. In 1982 I was moving a company from Jackson, TN to the Dallas area and had the bright idea of taking a large bag of Krystals home for the kids. It wasn't too bad in the company plane from Jackson to Memphis. However, I don't think I made any friends in the smoking section of the Braniff plane from Memphis to Dallas. Those things have a really distinctive, pervasive odor.

Kids were unhappy that Dad didn't do that again!

the Apex has gone through many names in it's time, but still makes a good hamburger or hamburger steak dinner. It is currently "Cappy's Apex". Going with a biker theme these days.

However, I've always felt for a hamburger steak dinner, go next door to the Cottage. You just might even find your biggest enemy there. Or at least his relatives.:p

Yeah I forgot about the Cottage. I suppose you are talking about SOS.

Are you a Davenport by chance?
One of them was in my fraternity. Moved to California from what I last heard. He probably throws some interesting soirees, funded with the fruits of sating many a late night, alcohol-fueled eating binge.
