First and foremost I want to say that I wish the best for Lane Kiffin and that he will be extremely successful but what has gone on so far is nothing short of embarrassing. Everyone is acting as though this off season program is something special and that will put us over the top of other schools but I dont think people know that by us implementing this program we are simply becoming equal to all the other elite teams. We were just long overdue for a program like this, that other programs have been running for years. I've got a couple good friend that plays for Carson-Newman and they have been running a similar morning conditioning program for the past 8-10 years. So this is nothing new we are simply just catching up and running similar programs. Conditioning IMO is more about making guys tougher and making players come together as a team then actually improving play on the field as football players dont need to be able to run a marathon they just need to get able to go full speed for 10 second bursts the whole night with breaks in between. It is good though that Kiffen is catching us up and that is his goal, I'm just simply saying the off season morning runs will not be what puts us back where we need to be, that will be on the practice field. Ed Orgeron ran a similar off season program recruited well and was intense and passionate and that led to not many wins so there is alot more to winning than just recruiting and a hard off season program. Lane Kiffin so far off the field of play so far has done nothing but replace the early vision of an enthusiastic young coach to a cocky arrogant young coach who has really yet to do anything for himself. He needs to do something very simple just shut up and coach and let the team do the talking on Saturdays. I think this offense will struggle again year one but we will see how much of a coach we do have years 3 & 4 when we have a team of almost all Kiffin boys. Thats when you see how good a coach really is. In conclusion I hope we get some wins this season and he takes us to the top but he needs to quit being an embarrassment until he has done anything worth noting.

So what you can't argue his points so you insult him instead? Give me a break. Not everyone is versed in this internet forum posting BS.

Geeezzz, give the guy a break.

You mean like the one where he compared the Carson Newman S&C program to one run by someone who is widely thought of as one of the best D1 S&C coaches in the country? That was a pretty strong point.

Matt, you make some valid points, but with this "kill the messenger" mentality we have going on in here, you won't get alot of positive (or even neutral) response.

They will come to their senses at some point. Maybe.

you said it yourself, you are stupid, it takes a time for the coach to get his players and orgeron was canned after 3 seasons so he never really got the chance to use his players, how could you even make that comparison

Switch your avatar too, since he is so embarrassing.
I love how people think I'm going after his personally and am against him but I hope he is exceptional I just fail to see were all this hype is coming from when we are just starting to do what everyone else has been for years. My judgment on Kiffin will be out until his 3rd or 4th season. I hope he is very successful but there is a different between coming in with confidence and giving hope to some down fans and coming in being arrogant and have the whole country making fun of your university, and accuse people of cheating when you yourself doesnt even know the rules

are you serious? how about hiring the best defensive mind in the game of football. how about assembling the best recruiting staff in the country. how about stealing 3 top recruits from Florida and LSU. how about having the #1 recruit in the country on our campus as we speak. what would it take for you to show some excitement?

Orgeron was a joke of a head coach but he is an outstanding position coach. I was simply pointing out with that example a great off season program and enthusiasm really has very little to do with how the team that takes the field in the fall. It in the end comes down to the players buying into a system and that system being run efficiently.

If you watched any UT football last year you would see that defense was not an issue. Stealing recruits is great but having a ton of talent does not equal success though it certainly makes it easier just look at Notre Dame. I'm excited to see what kind of team he puts on the field but I think its funny that people will defend Kiffin to their deaths but he has yet to do anything. I hope he is great but he needs to shut up until he does something worth while and quit embarassing us and contrary to what seems to be said on here not ALL publicity is good publicity.

When people wont even give the coach a chance to actually coach the team before bashing him they deserve to be trashed for the dolts they are.

Paragraphs are your friend.
+1

And when you (OP) say we are long overdue for this and we may simply be catching up to others...you may be right. Is there a reason not to be giddy about even the prospect? Of course it has to be proved on the field. DUH! But enjoy the journey, not just the destination. I personally find it refreshing that we can do something (ANYTHING!) to get under the skin of our competitors. If we were so inconsequential it wouldn't be news.
