The Kelly/Kiffin/Leach Equation

Kiffin seems to have the recruiting edge, could probably form a great staff, but I don't know much about his coaching & leadership ability.

Kelly has proven that he can really coach guys up and build a program. Hate to use the anology, but from what I know of him it fits: he's the Bruce Pearl type hire. Motivated, intelligent, tireless, overachiever.

Leach would need a hellacious DC and some stud recruiters on the staff. He would have a tough time endearing himself to the locals. Personally, I'd prefer to see Tennessee playing more smash mouth football than Leach's style.

I actually would prefer 51 points to 15. Helps your chances of winning. Leach could keep chavis as DC.

Defensive status quo + 35 more points a game on offense == lots of wins.

But I'm no mathematician.

About Kiffin quote in last link:

Kiffin is only slightly behind Kelly on my wish list. I believe the former Oakland Raiders head coach can win games, but he hasn't proven it. Kelly has.

Rumors are swirling online that Kiffin will be named Fulmer's successor as soon as Monday. Supposedly, the online source has a history of knowing things like this (i.e. reported Scotty Hopson was committing to UT and Tyler Smith was returning for his junior season far before anyone else).

If the rumors are true, the Vols are coming out of this coach search just fine. Kiffin is a good young coach and will undoubtedly assemble an outstanding coaching staff that will be able to recruit.

Well, it sounds like Leach may be heading to Washington after all. He can pull his pirate ship right up to the stadium, run onto the field, and yell "Har, me matey. 'Tis booty I have found!"
