The Kellie Harper Doomsday Clock is now the Kim Caldwell Doomsday Clock

We could go on listing real world possibilities. One that merits a mention-
The other team. What if the scout was accurate, the coaches communicated clearly and precisely, the players understood and executed to the best of their considerable ability, and the opponents, despite all that, played better? I submit that Ct. and SC would have deteated the Lady Vols by substantial, if less embarrassing, margins.

Some don't want to talk about the other team. Why? Because that would point to a coaching problem not a player problem.

If you've watched the games and don't also see the player problems you need glasses. Yes she brought them here and I'm sure she didn't think they would not give 100% for the entire game. And yes that is her problem to fix hopefully she sees that she should have handled it differently. When your biggs want get back on defense your in trouble and even when they do their still not very good defensive players. We'll probably get to see if different players will change the outcomes and no I don't think against the best teams the total line changes will work successfully.

I agree with both of you. As I have said before, the problems involve both the coaching staff and certain players. The good news, and yes, there is some, is that CKC has started to adjust to the reality of SEC competition. We can hope that her growth will continue, and that a few problem children will come along for the ride.

I'm really tired of this narrative. Was it true to a certain extent the first year of NIL? Sure. But Kellie Harper had all the money she needed her last two recruiting cycles and she struck out. Tennessee had a much larger offer on the table for Makayla Blakes, even had two business owners present how she would be the face of their advertising when she came for her visit around Market Square Madness, and she still picked Vanderbilt.

Samantha Williams put the money excuse out there to try and cover for the fact that Kellie couldn't close top kids and people believed it because there was some validity to it early on. Even I fell for it for awhile until I saw some of the numbers we threw out and still missed on. She also was probably frustrated by the fact that she and Kellie were the only people on the last staff that ever actively recruited.

Regardless, that has absolutely ZERO to do with today.

Saying that Caldwell has squandered funds when the current freshman class is the bright spot of this year's team and they have a potentially program-changing player signed is nonsensical.
Once again, "all the money she needed" is a a value judgment rather than any statement of fact. I have asked you to confirm or refute the story circulating that CKC has 3 times the funds to work with than Kellie. If so, could you explain why CKC "needed" 3 times more funds to field her team whereas Kellie only "needed" 1/3 of those current funds to field her's?

As for Blakes, Tennessee had a much larger offer on the table than who? Vandy? So, now you have inside info on the Vandy program and their funding levels for a specific player. Dude you are so plugged in!!! It does not at all seem like you're just inventing rationales to support your position....

Let's be clear, you just publicly called Samantha Williams a liar without supporting evidence and are asking us to believe your "word." Not sure what your motivations are but many of your posts of late seem far from objectively "disinterested."

No, it is not accurate to say that she has three times the funds available. The amounts are comparable to what Kellie had to work with the last two years of her tenure.

But it’s not a fixed amount or budget, so to speak, it’s dependent on who is out there. Part of Edwards big deal is Adidas money that isn’t coming out of Tennessee’s “budget.” Tennessee’s revenue sharing and NIL is certainly supporting her, but the Adidas money plays a role. It’s like with the football team and their search for a quarterback in the transfer portal, not landing a big quarterback didn’t necessarily mean that there was money to spend on other positions, some companies are only forking NIL money over for a quarterback.

I’m not saying Williams was necessarily a liar, but she did make excuses for her boss’s shortcomings. That’s not exactly new information.

Texas vol mentioned that coach needs to prepare us for the other team’s style of play. That is one of my complaints. We seem to run the same offense and defense regardless of the other team’s talent. We might back off the press but do they know how to play a zone? Does Kim know how to teach a zone? Is there any other offense besides drive into traffic and try to shoot or pass it out for a three? Or pass it around the perimeter as we all take turns trying to see who can get the best one on one opportunity? It can be so frustrating watching the hot potato. I’ll take it. No you take it. And the clock runs and then there goes the “shoot early in the shot clock so you can get 20-30 more shots than your opponent” part of the system. The offense has only been tweaked to slow down. Nothing about it is different.

Having that Adidas contract was huge in the case of Edwards, who had previously signed with Adidas if I’m remembering correctly. That opened up Adidas NIL funds as well. Ten HS WBB players signed with Adidas in June of last year and Edwards was one of them. Adidas said they would be entering into the NIL space shortly after that.

Edwards isn’t going anywhere, she is imo most likely tied into a huge NIL deal with Adidas and UT. Would not shock me if her deal was tops last year due to the Adidas/UT partnership and her existing personal Adidas contract. Adidas has chosen Edwards as one of the young WBB talents to invest heavily in.

I was wrong, it was 8 HS WBB players….read this to understand the commitment that Adidas is making to NIL and marketing with their member schools. UT athletes that are already personally signed by Adidas have access to separate Adidas NIL funds. Meanwhile, Under Armor has all but left the world of collegiate athletics.

CKC's system will not work at this level. There isn't enough talent or NIL funding to run a bench this deep at this level.

Trim the bench like the other top 10 teams. Recruit better starting 5. Find a coach that can build a system around that.

This discussion about NIL is interesting - I thought that there were some tradeoffs between what the LV's basketball team received and what the Vols Baseball team got which was part of the issue with our National Championship baseball coach leaving.

The math isn't adding up.

Edited to add - I have no way of knowing what is true or not, but that is out there everywhere.

I think it is both as well - just get tired of the group that says it is the players and the players only.

Wrong on all accounts. Tony left for the MLB and stated what the women's team got had nothing to do with it. And it wasn't NIL to begin with it was the profit sharing and Tennessee is in line with all big SEC schools.

Could be wrong, but my understanding is there's a rivalry BTW Baseball and Women's Basketball for 3rd place in the revenue sharing lottery. Football and Men's basketball will always be first and second because they're the only actual money makers. In Tennessee's case, it was decided that women's basketball comes in 3rd place for funds because they have the potential to earn more money then baseball.

Obvs, many baseball folks were unhappy with that and projected it onto TVs departure

Just in the settlement part Baseball gets additional funds from sources other than the settlement. I don't know exactly how much they get, but have heard it is more than women's basketball and is very competitive with most of the teams in the SEC.
As Tony has said about 15 times since he left. He did not leave because of funding he left to be a Major League Manager. Yet the wonderful baseball posters won't to keep using that excuse.

Excuse me the ones using that excuse aren't the regulars like myself in baseball forum. It's the drive by bandwagon fans.. from the FF and Basketball forum. Just as the NIL **** get the facts straight about this topic.

Believe what you want, but I happen to know that it's true and knew about it long before Harper was fired. She was not given the NIL resources to be competitive. I have personal knowledge of that from multiple sources inside the donor organizations and team.

Ok so throw out some numbers ? Like for Blakes … Or another player that you may know

The numbers I heard for this coach are much higher which could be true or could be false but I’ll say it i’ve heard of multiple freshman getting $250 k at least and multiple people on the team getting $500k which was a quite bit increase. Is this true ?
