1. We can say what we want about Coach Martin. There is a lot of negative and much of it is deserved. But that was a classic "This season is over who cares" game and UT didn't show any quit, and played their best game in a month. The team hasn't quit and that's half the battle sometimes.

2. We got to give credit to Coach Martin for the defensive game plan. Shadow Henderson all game, let Ole Miss play 4-on-4. Fight through screens, not around him. They surrounded the paint on defense and forced contested shots against Ole Miss. I really liked the changeups Martin threw. He sometimes downed the action, sometimes overloaded on one side. He mixed his pick and roll coverages too. Tennessee let Henderson get his (and he did) but got the boards and shut down the paint. Great job by him tonight.

3. Tennessee outrebounded Ole Miss by 18 tonight. It was just one of those game were Ole Miss wanted none of Stokes or Maymon on the boards.

4. ARMANI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Four boards, three assists, three blocks. Helped break down the halfcourt trap. He has really stepped up this second half of the year and I now officially declare that #ArmaniMoneyMooreisfree

5. Jeronne Maymon played his best game of the year and should be applauded for his two way effort. I was really impressed and proud. It was a great job controlling the paint.

6. Tennessee did a great job offensively with ball reversal. The extra pass was emphasized tonight. A lot of hockey assists tonight for the Vols. Tennessee went outside-inside tonight and I liked that. J-Rich and McRae both got going early and I was really impressed with the weak side action. There was constant moving on the weak side, something that almost never happens under Martin. It created passing lanes, offensive rebound opportunities, and ball reversal three point shots.

7. The Bernard King Player of the Game: The hardest one of the year. This is a struggle. All five starters deserve it. But I'm going with the closer, Mr. Jordy Mac. He gave great effort defensively, shot the ball well, attacked the basket, and had four boards and four assists, and when Tennessee needed to end the game, he shut it down so we can all go home.

8. Dear Coach Martin: Darius Thompson should start from now on. Thompson moves the ball much better and really beat the trap. My favorite play. He split the trap, got in the paint, and made a perfect pass to Jarnell for a lay up. Barton has his strengths, and it is not a shot at him, but he can't do that. Thompson really does a great job with the extra pass, and he's only going to get better. He's improved enough defensively where he isn't a liability, and if you absolutely have to, Martin can move J-Rich on point guards since Thompson has such length at the guard position.

9. Tennessee has 12 turnovers, only 3 in the second half. That is excellent. For such a fast pace, you will take that.

10. Almost no complaints. I will even give the fans a shout out. I was impressed considering everything with the attendance tonight. Great job VolNation. Tennessee got a big win tonight for tournament purposes. Tennessee has a monster opportunity Saturday to go on the road and get a pivotal road victory against the Red team. This was a very good performance and this is right where Coach Martin and company usually go on a streak. Let's hope it gets started.

Go Vols!!! :hi:

Hitting the 3's and having Maymon and Stokes both on the inside worked very well tonight. I was only able to catch the second half but they looked pretty good. Was good to see Tennessee separate and pull away when Ole Miss made their run in the 2nd half and challenged them.

Anytime you can weather a hot shooting streak like Henderson found and still win big, you've played a good game. The inconsistency of CCM teams continues to astound me. We looked like a 4 seed tonight, so I expect to lose the next by double digits.

I am/was hoping that Mamon would regain his old form the second half of the season after being out so long. Here's hoping he is rounding into that form.

Good win...hope they can keep it going.

The ole' "reversal mind trick", eh? I can dig it, Doc.

Nice write up as usual, dude. Tennessee played a really good game tonight. I loved the effort by this team and can only hope this continues.

Really impressed by the showing we had after Henderson got hot early in the second half. We stayed calm and answered with a barrage of layups with some well timed 3s.

According to whom? The posters here>

Speaking of which, where are the drive-bys posters tonight?

After getting blown out by Florida and the disappointment of this year, Tennessee easily could have just said "Oh well" at this game and they didn't.

I DVR'd it. Hope to watch it tonight. #3 is big. Last year Ole Miss had some bruisers. We said when they left that UT would own them on the boards and they did.

Now we have 3 very winnable games in a row. @ Bama, @ Vandy and home against USCjr. UT will be favored in every one. The Bama game will probably be close to a pick 'em, but if UT wants to go dancing, they have to beat teams like Bama. Vandy won at UGA tonight. Vandy has only 7 available scholarship players and now has beaten A & M and UGA on the road. That's how bad the SEC is this year. If we lose to UGA this year then we're cursed. They're not that good. And neither is Vandy or USCjr.

Great stuff as always, ZJC. I was at this one (section 322) - the game just gets so much easier when we hit open jumpers (McRae and Richardson both shot well) and hit free throws (something like 16 for 18 tonight?) And the offense just flows much better when Thompson is running the point. He's still a bit raw, but he's going to be really good, especially if he develops some offense, or at least the threat of slashing and kicking. But he's a GREAT passer. He needs to start the rest of the year. Barton will still see plenty of minutes backing up Thompson, McRae, and J-Rich.

One area of disagreement, though: the crowd. I wasn't expecting a great general turnout, considering the snow, the cold, the fact that it was on local TV, etc. But the student turnout was kind of pathetic, I thought. Support your team, kids. The ones who did show up were good and loud and harassed Henderson all night, which was fun. But that section was maybe a third full.

Great game.
Need to break the win one lose one pattern now.
Don't want to hear any more about how bad Maymon is this season.

One more point: yeah, Henderson got his, but he had to work for them. The kid is a hell of a shooter, but I only remember him having one wide-open look (off a steal). Otherwise, he took a bunch of off-balance shots with a hand in his face, and yeah, he made some, but he missed some, too.
