For Valentine's Day, my girlfriend gave me the Johnny Cash at San Quentin box set, and it's incredible.

Here's a thread for everything John R. Cash.

Don't take your guns to town.

I fell into a burning ring of fire, went down, down, down and the flames got higher... Johnny kicks butt!!!!

What's ironic is that while I've always known about Cash, I started becoming obsessed with his music AFTER I moved from the South.

tid bit of trivia for you there bro. Did you know that recording you have there was actually a remake? He was so hoarse from a concert the night before when they tried to do it the first time, it was so bad they could not have given it away. So they had to come back later and record it a second time.

I didn't know that. Wow! He sounds great on this recording.

I thought the "Hurt" remake of NIN's killer tune was cool -- I had played a very similar acoustic rendition years before it was released. I also play Folsom Prison Blues, Ring of Fire, and a couple of others.

A great songwriter with a gruff, simplistic sound that embodies much of what I love about music.

My german shepherd is mostly black so I named him Cash after the 'Man in Black' Johnny Cash. It fits him perfectly.

yeah the first one was bad. But that is what gave us Merle Hagggard. He was in the prison population, and when Cash still performed even though he was sick and sounded awful, merle said that really meant something to him that he would do that. Is what inspired Haggard to pursue his "Gospel" music career. (his momma always wanted him to sing gospel)

The video for Gods gonna cut you down is awesome. Lot of celebrities from all walks of life and types of music make cameos. It is a real tribute to how many careers Cash influenced
