The Jim Tressel example

The Tressel example does not fit at UT. Ohio is a football rich state mainly because Woody Hayes dedicated the remainder of his football after OSU life to building up Ohio's high school program. Here in Tennessee we have to recruit across borders. Tressel was a much safer hire for Ohio State on that front.

Secondly, OSU is in the Big Ten a now weak conference in college football. Long past are the glory days of the Big Ten, they are somewhere between the 4th and 6th best conference. We are in the best conference no time for mistakes a mistake could cost a decade.

Lastly, we do not need to take a risk we can find a Big Name that fits our needs. So why would we take such a risk?

Hayes only lived eight years after being fired, and the state of high school football in Ohio was outstanding to begin with.

In fact, I'd argue that with massive school consolidations in northeast Ohio, the 30-year recession in that area, and the loss of jobs and population statewide since Hayes was fired, the state (still top-five in high school ball every year) is worse off than it was then.
