No, I don't want to hire the guy, so don't get too peeved! However, He is the glaring example of an up and coming coach from youngstown state who had no experience at the bcs level. He came into osu(another traditional powerhouse that had been struggling) and proceeded to stampede their inferior conference.

I'm not saying we should hire an up and coming but they do work every once in awhile. Does hammy go the same route? He did with pearl, and I wouldn't be surprised to see kelly on the sidelines next year. Can you stomach it?

I-AA is not mid-major. And Kelly's team is worlds ahead of YSU. That being said, I believe ther are some I-AA coaches who can succedd at the next level.

Thanks for the correction.

Either way, I think we're taking a chance on any coach that is not proven

At this point since it seems Davis may be a bust (notice I said maybe), I would like to see Leach come. If that fails to happen, Kelly would probably be my third choice. Kiffen still hasn't sold me but I wouldn't be upset at that either. So to answer your question, I suppose I could stomach it, being I would have no choice. :good!:

Ok PLEASE Jim Tressel is not that great of a coach, if you look at who all he has schedualed since he has been at YOUNG/OHNO STATE, WOW they aaddes us to there schedual in 10 and 11 , My boss is a big Buckeye fan and we have had numorus discussions about the lack of signifigant out of confrence play and that on the BIG stage they are just what they are a weak one diminsional team, and I told him to pencil in a W beside TENNESSEE on the scheduals and a loss on there side because thats just a given win for an SEC school . Tressel is still a Div. 2 coach that wants to play in the big boy world, NO WAY does this clown even get brought up on this board for any reason except were in need of a TOWEL BOY!!!!!!!!!!!

PLEASE END THIS THREAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
P.S. He can take his buddy Terrell "I can't throw the football(MOST OVERRATED HOLD OUT SIGNEE)"Pryor and stay in the BIG TEN" NO CHAMPIONSHIP GAME "Conference.

Regardless of the outcome of the last two BCS national championship games, to say Jim Tressell is not a great coach is asinine. He won three national championships (played in a fourth) at Youngstown State. They have playoffs at that level. He won a NC and played for two more at OS. Those are hall of fame credentials even if never wins another game.

I feel that Peterson is by far the best coach at the lower D-1 level, based on his success, innovation, and ability to beat a few top D-1 teams, with inferior talent, something Fulmer's never been able to do......

Kelly is ok, but I don't see anything too great about his team, very plain.........

He has done that one time. One time is called an upset.

I agree with you, but look man..........this is what worries me........all the A-list coaches turn us down, and we HAVE to then turn to lower D-1 coaches on the rise, coordinators, etc......

Out of THAT group, who would you like to see?? Kelly is OK, just don't know if OK is going to cut it, in the SEC against those star-studded coaches.....

:eek:k:

I'd be fine with Kelly. I would be surprised if Kiffin and Kelly turned us down, so I'm not too worried at the moment.

Your college football knowledge amazes me.

Let's get Larry Kehres from Mount Union.

He's got a 260-21-3 career record with nine national championships, hasn't lost more than one game in a year since 1994, and certainly has a pipeline to nearly every high school in Ohio. Heck, that could chop down Tressel's connections and also preclude needing to recruit anyone south of Kentucky.

They are good, I get to see them live every year in the Stagg Bowl in Roanoke, as to him being our coach, I think/hope your joking.

Does everyone's opinion change on Petersen if Boise State wins another BCS bowl this year?

Actually, at least 3:

Oregon State in the regular season and then Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl in 06, then Oregon this year.

Beat Ohio State and he's got the O's covered.

The Tressel example does not fit at UT. Ohio is a football rich state mainly because Woody Hayes dedicated the remainder of his football after OSU life to building up Ohio's high school program. Here in Tennessee we have to recruit across borders. Tressel was a much safer hire for Ohio State on that front.

Secondly, OSU is in the Big Ten a now weak conference in college football. Long past are the glory days of the Big Ten, they are somewhere between the 4th and 6th best conference. We are in the best conference no time for mistakes a mistake could cost a decade.

Lastly, we do not need to take a risk we can find a Big Name that fits our needs. So why would we take such a risk?
