The Hurry Up Is A Gimmick

It hasn't gassed the defense, is a leftover time from the Big 12 and doesn't work. Ohio State doesn't use it nor Alabama nor Georgia nor did Saban. The only thing it is fit for is to keep the X-Box generation interested in the game. With their Attention Deficit Disorder they think they are watching a video game. Light shows fascinate them as well.
It feels like you were saving this post from a thought two years ago. Our offense has slowed down dramatically and it's not something we push unless a mismatch is identified and we are looking to capitalize.

Should we run all our gram strategies by the coaches of Bama, GA, and OSU before we run them?

Dang, youngsters been playing in your yard?

Alabama does use it some since DeBoer came on board. Sark uses it. Vandy is using it. Have you watched Ole Miss play? Many have picked it up as part of their offense, depending on situations. And TN does not use it to the extent it was sed when CJH came to Knoxville.[ but it still part of the offense. Our lack of ability to run this year has hampered it some.

Right. It’s so terrible that a rule had to be invented to punish teams who tell players to flop on the ground to stop play because the whole defense is gassed and can’t keep up

You NEED a QB1 that can run a tempo offense. Hooker ran it great. Milton could not. That UCLA guy could not. Aguilar runs it great. Georgia could not stop us while we were going tempo on them.

They only stop using it when it's working. I've never seen anything like it. We'll use it one series and score like there's nothing to it, then the next... we huddle every play and slow waaaay down. It's comical.

This is whats frustrating because the hurry up does in fact work. Keeps the defense off balance and honestly I think a QB like Joey works better when he has less time to think about it and just slings it.

What kills me is how we use it to get our opposition on their heels and then decide to start running up the middle in pistol.

Heupel protecting his defense I suspect. It's really helped hasn't it?

Tennessee doesn't really run the hurry up much anymore. at least not nearly to the level they used to.
That's what I don't understand. From what I've read, Heupel is very protective of "his offense" which is why he doesn't bring in an OC from "outside". Plus, he's the defacto OC anyway. That being said he's not running it much anymore and has morphed into something more conventional. So why not bring in a talented OC and hand the offense over to that guy? Makes no sense to my pea brain.

I disagree. UGA uses a fair amount of hurry up in spots, and not just in 2-minute situations. Tempo stresses defenses and limits their ability to sub and communicate. It puts teams on their heels and makes them reactive. Offenses get to dictate pace and that’s a big advantage.

Tempo isn’t a gimmick, it’s a tool. You don’t want to make that one tool an identity, but you want to have the right tool for the job. Your offense against UGA had a ton of success, and it was largely a mix of deep passes and tempo.
This 100%
Josh dials it down in situations. The only complaint I have is we've run a little slower version when we have big leads in the 4th qtr. I have often wondered why we are snapping the ball in the 4th qtr up by 2 or more scores with 18-20 seconds left on the play clock. That is when the clock is your best weapon.

I turned on the TV and there we were in the playoffs. Not sure what else you want to call it.
It’s amazing to me that I keep seeing these “fans” who keep denigrating the teams accomplishments bc they now seemingly have an agenda against Heupel. I’ve seen several post, “Well there’s actually too many teams, so it really isn’t that big of a deal.” “We got smoked by Ohio State, so Heupel sucks.” Newsflash morons, Oregon got whacked worse than we did in the Rose Bowl. The entitlement and the lack of awareness of some is absurd.

Bring back the wishbone, single wing, T formation and veer option
You joke, but yall would be lethal if you incorporated some triple option off jet motion by a WR. I’m not sure Aguilar can handle the hits he would take and getting an option offense humming takes more practice than most teams have to spare, but every defensive coordinator would riot.
