The hope is not us winning out

I too am hoping for a win out. It won't be easy after this weekend.

No, it won't. No matter how we view Kentucky, Missouri, and Vanderbilt, out guys will face them with a whole lot less fire power than we figured they would when the season started. But that's football.

It will with Missouri. Their defense is absolutely an atrocious mess.

Hasn't UT had needed that to happen for every seccg appearance but 1?

no, 98, 01 and 04 we won the East by virtue of the win over FL. past that, yes, 97 FL lost 2 after beating us, and 07 same...

So 98 and 04

01 we needed UGA to lose another

forgot about the GA game, and with the FL game being what it was, it never felt like we 'backed' in to it that year....know what i mean? i was just thinking about FL as the opponent.

Strange to think about since that team was definitely NC caliber

yeah, it never occurred to me to think about 01 as "backing in"...typically GA wasn't/isn't the measuring stick for going to ATL......that and just how the FL game got set up that year....that was a HUGE game....

the difference being, you beat FL and GA, and should have/would have gone undefeated in the East.

If FL happened to lose a game to a good west opponent on the road, well, that's the cost of doing business, and the cost of losing to TN.

now...you really need help. i think most people looked at the East before the season and could see a 10-2 TN winning the EAst over a 10-2/9-3 FL and that would be about what people expected to happen.

now siwtch it, and you have a TN team that can do no better than 9-3, and a FL team staring 11-1/10-2 in the face, back to back East championships, and the narrative changes now to who do you feel better about going forward? who has the chops to take over the East and be considered a division contender year in and year out?

This is what I was driving at. I'm not upset about losing to Texas A&M or Alabama, even though if we don't turn the ball over against A&M we probably win that game going away. My point is we only lose those two games, as you said, we rely on Florida losing one more game and that is a very realistic possibility.

This year if we go to Atlanta, no doubt we definitely backed in.

Still, if we go 9-3 and win the bowl game regardless of a trip to Atlanta and how we got there it's still progress. Albeit, it would be the ugliest 10 wins I think I've ever seen it would be the best season we have had in a while. I personally think we don't deserve to go simply because of how ugly that Carolina loss is. But what will everybody say if Florida goes on a 3 game skid and loses to that same Carolina team?

Yes win out is what needs to happen - get to 9-3 - and get a chance to win 10.

11 or bust. Hoping we have everyone healthy for Dec 3rd, and the chances of Hurts getting injured or slipping up are good, if we can get LSU or Auburn, I like our chances. The chances of that happening? Not great, but it's football time and I don't care what's going on, let's deal with the issues after the season. The Sugar Vols won 9 games, and we still talk about them. All of this BCS and CFP stuff has turned it into a NT or bust in most peoples's mind, and we forget this stuff.

successful in the most general definition, yeah, sure, it is. Successful in that we beat FL finally and now have 2 in a row on GA..yeah. successful in that you feel like you accomplished the goal? resounding no.

to me...it's just kind of flat. it's like going to a fireworks show, and all they got is bottle rockets. they're fireworks.....so technically.....

This is where my thinking is.

I've said it before, because it's what we all here believed. We didn't think Missouri was a good team when they won the East in back to back seasons. Florida won 10 games last year and no one thought they were good either.

Tennessee was not only supposed to win the division. Tennessee was supposed to be legit. Some thought they could win the league. Some thought they could be a playoff team. Some thought there were two potential Heisman candidates on the team.

This whole thing started with Appy State and hasn't stopped. Fortunately for Tennessee fans, they got it done against Florida and Georgia. But, that doesn't make the overall on-field performance disappointing.

As much as I want the Vols to win out and finish 9-3, without Hurd and Kamara (I know Kamara's supposed to be back) It's easy to see the Vols losing to Kentucky, Vandy or Missouri and finish 7-5

The Vols could easily be 3-5 right now and the way they have played doesn't prove any different

Here's wishing for 9-3.....fingers crossed

Why? So we can get pummeled by Alabama in the SEC championship? After seeing this product, I just can't imagine a scenario where we could even compete. I know that's sour grapes and I hate it too but just telling it like it is.

Folks that say this must be totally confused. Isn't the SECCG the FIRST goal on the path to a NC? I mean Hell if were not playing to make it to the SECCG then why are we even playing? Whether its takes help from other teas or not that's part of it. And so be it if you think we get stomped again, its not a loss until the Game is played! I will gladly take a chance at Bama again in the SECCG! Anybody thinking otherwise is just well fell off the crazy train!! I love my team and want to see them win the east and play in the SECCG regardless of what happens in it! GBO!

Like most fan bases you guys are either too negative or too positive. You pumpers do realize that your team has lost 3 games, barely beat App State and should have lost to uga, do you not? You negavols do realize that you whipped the Gators, our only loss, and should have beaten ateam competing for the playoffs, do you not?

Regardless of how the Vols fare in their final three SEC games, is it permissible to find the thought of UF losing to Arkansas, LSU, and even South Carolina pleasing?

for us it's simple...you have a wildly inconsistent team from the onset, that found ways to win....contrary to last year's team snatching defeat from vicotry, this version snatched victory from defeat....that then found themselves decimated by injuries, while still being that inconsistent team...and you find us on a 3 game skid, where 2 of those should be w's.

the injuries have exposed the inconsistency, and diminished the ability to 'find ways to win'.

as you're going thru the front half of the season....while still getting the wins...it's easy to have hope that the inconsistency gets fixed. as we find ourselves on the back half now, seeing more of a finished product....you're left saying "oh, ok, this is the real TN team".
