The Hatvol NBA Draft Preview: Overvalued Players

How much better did Amare Stoudemire and Tim Duncan get? Both started playing when they were around 14 years old.

Tim Duncan was a polished as a senior and Amare was a high schooler.

Thabeet wont improve too much on offense. He needs to develop a sky hook or one move he can use to score.

But the point is that they got much better since then. If Thabeet can develop one or two moves to score, like you said, then that in itself is improvement. If a team needs a big man, he should be worth a top 10 pick.

Yet, Thabeet is a stiff. He isn't going to magically develop speed or agility. He will be a guy that can average maybe 10 ppg, block some shots and grab 8-10 boards a game IMO.

Thabeet doesn't have anywhere close to the athleticism of Amare or the fundamentals etc of Duncan.

There is a short ceiling on Thabeet IMO.

I think this is about right for him. I'm not comparing athletic ability between Thabeet, Stoudemire and Duncan, just that they started playing at a later age than most.
