I could only think of the happiest my dad was still living back when majors best bear Bryant my dad his friend my cousin my younger brother well I’m the only one left of that group. But still good times! Nice ride home!
1) 98 Natty game
2) 2004 Florida game
3) 2016 Dobb-nail boot game
4) 2024 Bama game
5) Orange Bowl when the Vols beat Clemson and Dumbo like a rented mule
First ever game at Neyland. Never experienced anything like this. Teenage kid playing high school football in a small town. When Dale Carter took the second half kick off to the house, the stadium erupted in what I thought (at the time) was the sound of a 747 jet taking off.
Definitely the national championship game. I always said I would be happy if the Vols could just win one national championship in my lifetime. As the final seconds ticked off, I got on the phone with my Mom and Dad and celebrated long distance. I will never forget the joy of that celebration. My Mom and Dad are now both rooting for the Vols up in Heaven.
2016 @UGA… I was sitting on the front row of the opposite endzone upper deck, so everybody had to look past one Vol fan to see the Hail Mary. I heard a guy behind me say “I was high 5’ing everybody but realized that one dude in orange down front was losing his s4@& for some reason” lol.
2022 Bama. I’m not sure if this really counts, but I was at the watch party in Vol Village. The all-night celebrating with alumni friends that I only see once every few years was the best part.
If 2022 Bama doesn’t count, then 2004 Florida. I was at that game, and a sophomore at UT. Very similar, awesome celebration after the game.
Florida was different because I just knew we would play for the SEC and National Championship after that win.
Alabama was different because of Nick Saban. I’ll never forget in 2021 Alabama wore us out in the second half and Saban told the reporter after the game “We got to get ready to play a real team next week” (LSU).
The neat thing about 1998 is we finally “out defensed” the offensive genius and in 2022 we finally “out offensed” the defensive genius.
