Ever wonder why a traditional power like Nebraska, Texas A&M or Washington & (? Tennessee) takes so many years to ressurect their football program after they hit bottom? One reason is the ban on recruiting for all school during the dead period in December and early January until the bowls are over. It is my, now biased, opinion that the non-bowling schools should be allowed to use this time to "catch up" in the interest of parity.

The other unfair restriction is the fact that only the teams going to bowls are allowed to practice in December. Was it fair that Bama got 2-3 extra weeks of practice last year comparied to Ole Miss which didn't, even though both teams finished with identical 6-6 regular season records.

I never worried about this when we were winning big and bowl bound!:cray:

Its kinda like the rich get richer, the good get better, It takes money to make money and all that stuff... So I guess we are the poor extended family that nobody wants to see much. But I bet our coaches wife will get us a seat at the dinner table.

I think this is a valid point, and should definitely be up for debate. Good thread, sir.

Professional teams have a system of helping the downtrodden.......they get the early draft choices. The NCAA has the opposite.........the weak teams do not get the extra practice time which is equivalent to hsaving an extra spring or fall practice in some cases.

You act like our kids are sitting on their tails playing Madden all day. They are in the weight room with Mark Smith and I'm sure Kiffin has had them running routes or something productive. No such thing as down time in SEC football.

You are once again wrong. The players are on break. It is up to them to work out at this point. They are given a plan, but are in no way required to work out. If you ever met any football player ever, then you can rest assure they are playing Madden everyday.

To be honest with you Vulger, there is a flaw in the ability to edit on this board. You can edit posts but not thread titles. I probably should use a spellchecker, but I don't. So from now on I will check the Sp. before posting, since it obviously bothers you.:eek:k:

Funny, Brian Williams said Pearl wanted the players back in Knoxville ASAP after break and that the football players were headed back too to work in the weight room.

Personally, I find this complaint self-serving and beneath our station.

Would you want revenue sharing as well? No, the Vols can offer amazing facilities and football prestige that the traditional downtrotten teams can not offer. You think we need another advantage? The thought that we need a NCAA wide rule to help the Vols regain national status offends me greatly.

Moreover, the additional bowl practice would be harmful. This team needs a new attitude that can only come from a fresh start and a new direction. This will be better accomplished in the new year.

The Vols can regain their rightful status like Alabama and LSU without any subsidy (thank you just the same).

How many years did those two teams wander in the wildernerss before regaining national power. While I hope you are correct, call me again in three years. Your haughty attitude may have changed!

My apologies if I came on too strong in that last post. I was aggravated when I typed it.

I'm behind CLK now but I don't think it was the best hire so, in my opinion, it will take longer then 3 years. As a result, we may have to "wander" the desert ourselves for a while. Nonetheless, I am not interested in complaining that we need help to compete (especially after other schools have rebuilt themselves).

The current state of the football program is a problem resulting from bad decisions: Fulmer's decision to become complacent and MH's decision to give an undeserved pay raise so as to make a good hire cost prohibitive; nothing short of a crime (why he is celebrated by some on this board I will never understand).

I totally agree. If the coaching change had been made after '05 we would have been in better shape for an early recovery. However, we've rolled the dice with Lane Kiffin and if he can recruit as well at UT as he did at USC we may have landed another Bruce Pearl.
