Okay, until anything is public, Gruden as the next HC is only hypothetical, but if it turns out to be true, how does that effect recruiting?

I expect he'd turn some heads, but turning heads doesn't equal signatures on signing day. Yes, I think Gruden could recruit, but he'd still be facing an uphill battle this year. At this point, many recruits have forged good bonds with other coaches already. And for some recruits, it's not about the coach.

I think Gruden would be a great long-term coach, but I don't think that necessarily equals a top 5 recruiting class this year. I'm not saying it can't happen, but some seem to think it's an automatic, which I don't think it is. My whole point, if the Gruden hire happens, don't build up your expectations so much you'll be disappointed on NSD. Myself, I'm being cautiously optimistic. I hope Gruden is true, but until it's announced, I'm not all in. If it turns out to be reality, I'll hope for a great recruiting class, but I won't bank on it.

He will at least be a great option for any recruit that is committed, yet is not confident in their choice. It's possible to pull that type of class, but Gruden will shape the long term picture even more.

I agree. Hope for the best in the short term, expect the best in the long term.

Now I see someone putting some thought into his post!!! Well said Weezer! In a later post you said, "I hope for the best in the short term... and expect the best for the long term." That is exactly what coaches, players, and fans should hope for and expect, too. I'm not a great Jimmy Carter fan, but when he was being interviewed by Admiral Rickover for nuclear submarine duty, Rickover asked Carter, "While you were at the Academy, did you do your best?" Carter thought for a few moments, then replied, "No sir, I did not do my best." Rickover responded to Carter's reply, "Why not? Why did you not give it your best?" The idea here is, "If you don't give it your best in class, how are you going to expect to give it your best on the field?" As much as UT fans put out in money and time to attend Vols games, and in following and supporting the program, we should hope for the best... and expect the best. That same ideology goes for the coaches and players as they prepare for, coach, and play on the field... "We hope for the best, because we EXPEcT the best!"

Whenever Dooley is replaced, Hart should not hire a man who cannot show him his "short, medium, and long" term plans for building UT back into the powerhouse it was just a few short years ago (though it seems like forever). "Without a vision the people will perish..." - Likewise, "Without a plan a coach will fail..." GBO!!!

Thank you, recruiting forum, for being rational for once. :)

The FF guys that have spilled over to the rumors forum seem to believe Gruden would instantly flip the better half of Bama and LSU's classes, because he would instantly make UT that much more desirable than those two schools. :no:

Now, if Saban leaves for Cleveland and Billicheck goes to Bama, I swear I'll have a stroke.

I cannot think of any. Barry Switzer and Jimmy Johnson have both won a NC and a Super Bowl. But not a SB first.

Forget about Gruden coming to U.T. The scenerio that I see, most likely happening is:

(1) Gruden stays at MNF. The money is good and he is home more often and there is no stress that 18 - 22 year olds give you. Also, he technically only works 17 days per year.

(2) Charlie Strong will likely remain at Louisville. I see them matching our financial offer. Also, Kentucky & Auburn & Arkansas will likely be looking for new coaches.
We will drag our feet and one of the other rival S.E.C. colleges will land him. Either way, Strong remains at Louisville or he goes to a rival S.E.C. school but not to U.T.

(3) Petrino will also be taken by either Auburn or Kentucky before we make a serious attempt to get him.
Or the Powers That Be will not be willing to risk taking him. Either way, he not be at U.T.

(4) Dooley will remain the coach another season, by de fault. Once a "HomeRun" coach is available and is interested in the U.T. job, we will send Dooley back to Saban's staff and hire our new coach. Until then, Dooley will remain here......

Bill Walsh. He went back and coached Stanford for a few years after leaving the Niners.

That is how I think it would go in a living room face to face with a recruit and his parents.

I believe your wrong unless you're factoring in Hart losing his job. The majority of the fanbase wants change now. Keeping Dooley another year is not a viable option.
