I don't really care about seeing Planet Terror but I do want to see Death proof. I might go tonight.

I got the chance to see the movie Friday. Honestly, I wasn't impressed. The first one, Planet Terror, was really bad. Rodriguez obviously tried to make a homage to the Grindhouse style of the 1970's slum flicks, but his attempts to make a dialog driven horror/fantasy movie just didn't work or hold one's interest. I felt like I was watching a 3 dollar movie that I paid 20 dollars to see. By the time of the intermission, my gf was ready to go, but I made her stay to watch the 2nd one. The fake previews in between the movies were kind of funny, but not great. Deathproof is your typical Tarantino movie with the irrelevant dialog and slow moving plot. I actually halfway enjoyed this one, and I must say I probably didn't like Deathproof at the time I saw it because I had just sat through almost 2 unbearable hours of waste. The movie (both films) is over 3 hours long. I would suggest one rent Deathproof and pass on Planet Terror (they will be released on DVD separately).

They freaking bombed at the box office. I thought they would do good, apparently the public is tired of these guys not being original and just copying everything they do.

Yeah... it really bombed.

Anyways, I had planned to go see it at Hamilton Place, but they close the theatre down at 8:00. WTF is up with that? :ermm:

They had box office receipts of $11.6 mil for a film industry analysts predicted to have a $22 mil opening. I'd say that's a bomb.

I am sure it is one part Robert Rodriguez genius, and one part Quentin Tarantino wankery. I am starting to think he should have quit after Pulp Fiction

I liked it personally...but the box office numbers don't surprise me.

You gotta realize three things. It's three hours long, chock full of cheesy dialog and less than cutting edge visuals. and...It opened against two family films.

If you know what to expect you won't be dissapointed.....It's a salute to B movies. nothing more.
