It SUCKS to admit it.
— But, The fun is gone.

The Competition is still there. — But, who knows “who’s playing who” next….

The fun is gone for all of the Universities that represent, sponsor, and promote all of the school’s sports programs.

The fun is gone for all of the coaches (in ANY sport) that used to enjoy recruiting, developing, and mentoring / teaching / training the players.

The fun is gone for college players that just want to WIN games.

The fun is gone for students & Alumni - because they can’t even count on “who’s gonna be on the team This / Next year”.

Example: Baylor lost their ENTIRE men’s basketball team. - EVERY Single Player…GONE!

The fun is gone for the fans that just want to support & cheer for their school. (Tickets, souvenirs, & even parking prices are outrageous, now).

— And whoever heard of having to “subscribe” to a Net-work just to see your favorite team play a game?

The fun is gone — My sons don’t even want a jersey with a player’s name on it, anymore….

NIL, The transfer portal, and “opting out” of ANY game has killed college sports! — And it’s only gonna get WORSE!

If I was a high-school athlete that was offered a scholarship (or even a walk-on) at a major university - I would be THRILLED! — And, I would be “dedicated” to that school just for the opportunity!

But, the fun is gone. - because it’s all about money, now……

There is some truth to what you post. It all comes down now to the schools who want to buy championships. At some point the schools are going to have to come face to face with what is their real mission. You can not hide behind the student athlete any longer since that term is just a mirage. You are just running a farm team for professional sports organizations. The real tradition of college sports is a past era.

My question is should we be buying championships when we have so many other needs now? I would have never asked that question 10 years ago due to being so caught up in my fandom over the last 50 years.

I have to agree unfortunately. It just isn’t the same anymore. I often find myself playing the old NCAA games from the PlayStation 2 era just to remember the golden days of this sport, and why I fell in love with it in the first place. It was so special back when I was younger, but greed has ruined it.

I miss when you’d sign a player and didn’t have to think to yourself, “Will somebody drop a bag and steal him from us?”. I miss when you’d watch a freshman QB at a G5 school tear it up, and not have to worry about him transferring to your rival the next season. I miss when tradition truly meant something. I miss regionality, and how rivalry games that have gone on since the Cleveland administration were considered sacred, and not something to wave away for a cupcake game.

Those days are gone. It sucks and I’d give anything to go back. But at least we do still have ways to go back and remember the good old days.

The reality is its always been like this behind closed doors!! Some of your favorite athletes are writing books telling that they received pay decades ago.

You can either try to accept these changes in college athletics and try to enjoy the games anyway .... or just follow the NFL and NBA where there are collective bargaining agreements, salary caps and free agency structure.

I will keep renewing my season tickets. The 4 games I go to each year are an absolute blast. My wife goes to all but one. I would, but I have to work some weekends.

It’s still fun.
I don’t think a bit of this off season 💩 is fun. Frankly I’d rather be pecked to death by geese. Even during the season, about the only thing that comes to mind will be: Well I’m sure glad we’ve been able to buy a decent team. Or why oh why didn’t we spend more money or tamper with more players. Spending money is now what it all comes down to and that’s just sad.

Right after this is where Moe slaps Curly right upside the face and says get it together.

And yet, when September rolls around you’ll be watching and cheering like everyone else.

“You criticize society while still partaking in it. Curious.”-esque argument lol. You can criticize something and say it’s not as good as it used to be and still watch it.

Don’t get why some of you are so adamant to defend the current state of cfb. You’re not cashing in on it, why white knight for the suits? They’re not going to slide you a cut of their billions as a thank you.

You left out preferring to have geese peck your eyes out because kids transfer for the best NIL deal during the off season.

Kids can maneuver and negotiate exactly like the suits, and I’m here for it.

My enjoyment of CFB is in no way deterred by any of this.

I’m not as attached to the players as a lot seem to be. At least not until they give me reason to. So while I don’t like the constant transferring and money demands, it’s not that big of a deal to me. I’ll still watch in September. I think the “guardrails” need to be put in place, but I’m not ready to panic and jump ship.

Yep.

The game evolves. If you want to go with it, then hop on. Otherwise, nobody is forcing you to invest in it and you aren't owed anything.

There are legit criticisms but hell there have been legit criticisms forever. What people like the OP are saying is....it's not fun TO ME anymore because it's not how you want it to be.

You'll be ok.

Oh I’ll always watch but maybe not with quite as much excitement as I used to. Finding other things to do as I get older. And as I said, the offseason has gotten really tough to deal with. Making the sausage is way worse than it used to be.

Yep, I don’t follow recruiting much at all anymore, let alone the portal…way too many moving parts these days.

Just tell me who’s on the roster after the last fall practice, and that’s who I roll with.

Yep I’m really not all that interested until the first game and I see who’s lining up. And even then, it ain’t like it used to be. At my age and with all that’s happening now, I find a lot more joy in my grandkids’ sports and activities and a sub 80 round of golf.

There’s a reason the Bible has very specific things to say about putting money above all else.

It becomes a disease that wrecks everything when it finds itself as the top priority.

Apply that same biblical energy to university presidents and TV executives.

Given your profession I trust you’ll gladly accept the next lowball offer for your client, and not put money above all else.
