Problem with Mustangs are they are a dime a dozen.

Base mustang brings the prestige of the shelby versions down where as a corvette is a corvette.

if the WRX makes the list, why not the Mazdaspeed 3, Lancer Evolution or Golf GTI?

That is the STi.

The gti and ms3 don't have the same power to weight ratio as that group.

The cutoff seems to be 11lbs per hp. The ms3 is above 12 lbs per hp.

Because the STI takes the last spot, and their criteria was simply power-to-weight ratio. The STI has a higher power to weight ratio than all the cars you mentioned... Where is the confusion?

Genesis and Nismo 370Z are by far the best cars on that list.

did you ever read the Car and Driver article regarding the failure of the brakes on a Nismo 370Z at one of their Lightning Lap events?

Z Meets Wall: We Investigate Why the NISMO Z's Brakes Failed at Lightning Lap - Feature - Car and Driver

The cause? It certainly wasn’t a case of running out of talent. No—fact is, the NISMO’s presumably strong brakes weren’t. And they failed us at the worst possible time—at the fastest point on the track, when we were attempting to decelerate from 130 mph for the 45-mph right-hander that is Turn One.

Sucks but equipping cars like that with inadequate brakes happens more often that one would expect. That caliper looks similar to the caliper the Z has had since the early 90's, and the car was still a pig then. I expect Nissan will soon (if not already) only offer the Nismo Z with the upgraded pads, and as far as track use goes, going DOT4/DOT5 fluid is common sense.

it was more than just inadequate brake pads, it was lack of airflow over the brakes as well

Understood, just a couple things...
- Most people who buy that car and drive it on the street probably aren't even capable of driving hard enough to cause that kind of failure if they have upgraded brake pads
- The performance with upgraded brake fluid and better pad compounds don't look exceedingly bad
- I don't care what the car is, anybody who is taking their car on a track day should be smart enough to provide supplemental brake ducting, better pads and DOT4/DOT5 fluid. If they're not then they're going to have bigger problems.

Nissan definitely screwed up by offering regular old pads and inadequate ducting, and while it's the job of groups like C&D to take cars straight from the showroom to the track and find out about these problems, anybody who does it on their own is an idiot.

All I know is I plan to go for about $60K or so for the new Boxster S after it comes out. What's an extra 10K or so when you've already got 50 on the barrel?
