The fair way to judge Fulmer's coaching

Phil has painted himself in a box. He was hoping Crompton would come around and therefore he was right. He is now forced to realize a change is needed. If either BJ or Stephens comes in and the offense does a 180, it'll make Fulmer look bad and even more question his coaching decisions. Especially why it took so long and why he continued to stay with Crompton despite the writing on the wall.

What my comment was aimed at is if the other QB's come out and are little if any better than Crompton then what are you really blaming the coaches for? Not making a lateral move from lousy to lousy? (or worse)

Now, if Stephens/Crompton come in and there's an obvious improvement (and don't just take this as fact if they look good vs NI) then the coaches will be seriously and justifiably questioned why the change wasn't made sooner.

No sir....what you can then blame the coaches for is not preparing the MOST important position that needs preperation before the season even began! That sir is the real crime.....3 QB's and not one can be a leader. Heck...I'd take one that could hand off the ball, much less throw it.

I understand your point but it's still a bit assumptive. If a players isn't any good then...there you have it. Spurrier, a supposed offensive/QB genius, has his starter ranked 8th in the SEC. A cliche about polishing fecal matter comes to mind.

If he benches Crompton, ppl will say he's at least trying to do something different, which could help a lil'

I'm saying nothing of the sort. I'm saying that if the coaches haven't seen anything in practice that makes them think somebody is more deserving then I understand their reluctance to bench the guy that at least has the most experience.

I'm right in line with your second point.

Sorry hndog, I was being sarcastic with the "watch the film" sentence, as it's all the coaches would say when asked about evaluating the talent/game.

This thread is just another weak argument in a series of weak arguments to support a coach that thinks he is more than the success and welfare of this program. Fulmer's most productive time as Head Coach at Tennessee has come and long gone.
