I have the entire 1985 football season and a 1983 Tn vs Bama game. The man that had these owned a theater here and from what I was told he had rights to these games but before he passed away a friend of mine bought these just to have but gave them to me. The only thing is they are on Beta and he said they can be switched to CDs. But if anybody wants them and will pay the shipping they can have them for free.

I am in Tennessee so the shipping wont be that much

I'll take them please. He owned the rights? Does that mean I would own the rights? Or how does one go about owning rights?

Thise rights are considered personal property. That means that they will pass via his Will, if he had one, or by the process of intestacy if he did not. Intestacy basically just means that his stuff passes to his closest family if he has no Will. So no, you will not have the distribution rights just by having the videos. But you will have a really cool set of videos.

Speaking of the 1985 season...I moved to a new town last week. I met my neighbor and it turns out he is Bryan Kimbro who started at OLB for the 1985 Volunteer Sugar Bowl team that made Miami look bad. He told me he was going to Knoxville for the Bama game which is the VFL game. He said there would be over 400 VFL's at the game.

1985 Sugar Bowl where UT was a big underdog, 14 pts I think, and Vinny Testaverde got whacked big time. If I remember correctly (doubtful at my age) Miami scored first then the next 35 points was all UT. Wasn't the UT QB Dickey? It's been so long I just don't remember all of the details.

All sounds accurate. But old too. Here's hoping 2 old minds make one solid memory.

Yeah Dickey was Sugar Bowl MVP. It was a great night, you can find the full game on Youtube.

Sucks that Donohue's brilliant defensive game plan was practically copied by Jerry Sandusky and he was given full credit.

Yes the QB was Dickey the backup. Miami got off the plane in camouflage fatigues, talking about what bad men they were. A game for the ages.

I thought they did the camouflage against Penn State?

Some of the games (I know for sure UCLA, Kentucky and Vandy) including the Sugar Bowl are on YouTube.

You are correct, miami and the camos (aka military-style fatigues) were the next year vs. PSU in the 1987 Fiesta Bowl (1986 season).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1987_Fiesta_Bowl

Tennessee mud stomped the canes in the 1986 Sugar Bowl (1985 season).

Trust me when I say this, "fatigues" or "no fatigues", the entire UM contingency was celebrating their Natty a bit pre-mature. I was there, and was a great atmosphere for days leading up the the game, hanging-out w/ Tim McGhee and Clinkscales (sp?). Also ran into Darren Miller and Hovanik.
I recall access to the team was so open back then.
Canes fans (as outnumbered as they were, and it was not even close at what had to be 75% Big Orange Faithful taking over Nola), were getting in everyone's faces to the point of getting physical in days leading up to game.
All I can say is, we played one of the best coached defensive games in UT history, and Jeff Powell was really fast.

I had a Special Edition 1985 Pre Game Sugar Bowl VHS. I let someone borrow to turn into a DVD but never got it back.

It had highlights of every regular season game in 1985 (Tiptoe Creamer on a punt return, Pete Panuska's run against Rutgers, Eric Swanson swinging his legs wildly against Vanderbilt, and all of the plays that were more famous than the one's previously mentioned)

What upsets me even more is that I kept the commercials in the tape. Classic 1985 commercials like "Give me a light. No, a bud light" Budweiser commercials.

Sucks that the guy never returned it.
