UT to cut 17 positions in athletics department » GoVolsXtra

According to the release, the restructuring will lead to a total savings of nearly $2.5 million in the 2012-13 budget in terms of personnel costs. The 17 layoffs will represent a savings of $1.03 million, and another $850,000 will be saved by the combination of unfilled positions being eliminated, resignations, retirements and terminations.

The release said another $625,000 will be saved by reducing the number of student employees, which includes managers, assistants and interns.

Throw in Cal's offering for Martin, Nike Advance, SEC Network...etc$$$$

Don't be pullin' some basketball coach up in here with three years of experience Hart.

I hope the boosters with the big pockets are willing to pony up enough dough to land the best candidate possible, no matter how much it takes. I want to see the Vols back in contention for the SEC title on a regular basis.

Those boosters will decide the coach -- not Hart or that dipwad Cheek

I would love to spend big money, but realistically, 3-4 million is beyond big money and is moving into the realm of top 10 salaried, multi-Final Four/NC winner level of pay. If we can get one of those to change jobs, go for it.

Outside of that, 2 million should be plenty. That's going to be top 20 in the NCAA and is more money than Jim Boeheim or Roy Williams makes.

VQ made it sound like today that if we were willing to spend $2.5-$3 we would have a very real chance at Marshall. However that ain't happening.

I suppose Hart could offer Marshall 3 million a year with a 6 year deal. I would then expect news to filter down days later that Butch Jones has been given a 500,000.00 pay increase.

Florida is both a football school and a basketball school.

You can be both.

Why do so many people think that it is one or they other?

They hired Muschump.

IMO they used to be. :)

Muschamp much like Grant was thought to be a great hire, just like Kirby Smart would be, nothing's a sure thing.

You're in full denial though if you're gonna say Florida is not a football school, you just don't want to admit it because it doesn't for what you were trying to say.

That was my point.

Saying we can't hire Marshall because we'd have to pay him more than Butch is foolish. He's proven more than Butch, he deserves more than him, who the f cares.

Donovan deserves more than muschamp, so he gets more than him, not a big deal.
