suffers from way to many gimmicks and hype; and not enough athleticism and style.

griffin had 1 good dunk... the first one.

mcgee... he's 7 foot... the 2 baskets was impressive... every other dunk sucked.

give me vince carter, kenny 'sky' walker, j rich, neek and mj. they didn't need gimmicks just power, style and athleticism.

i think blake griffin has that... but he's to worried about all the hype rather than just slammin' the motha f***** down.

capes, 3 balls, the car, the choir, stuffed animals???... dumb.

This years dunk contest was great imo. Times have changed, everything that is possible has been done so props and gimmicks are needed. As far as tonight the worst actual dunk was griffins car dunk but i enjoy the show part of the contest.

The dunk contest probably ran its course 15 years ago. I wish they'd draw names out of a hat and have a 1 on 1 tournament.

Dunk contest was best when it was legends doing it, but making today's guys take old dunks and do them made it fun. I think they should do a couple of dunks, no props, and then go to copying old ones. That way, this excuse of all dunks having been played out is over. We get to see style, athleticism, power and grace.

Griffin's 360 was insane.

No it wasn't. jumping from the FT line is insane. Some ugly attempt at a 360 was lower 40's in score for anyone else at best. Dwight Howard would have destroyed Blake and I think Dwight knew that.

I've been saying that for 8 years or so...

Only I would match up the top 4 vote getters at each position and have the tournament/match ups.

If DeRozan wouldn't of messed up on his first dunk he would have been in the finals... He had the two best dunks IMO

yeah DeRozan's toss up 1 hander was pretty nice.

can you imagine a 16 player 1 on 1 tourney!!! that would RULE!

of course, none of the big names would play cuz it would look bad for their "image" if they got dunked on.

Vince Carter killed the dunk contest, after his performance they should have just moved on to something else.

The entire All-Star weekend is just awful, I think they all are though.

the only one that slightly resembles an actual game is probably baseball.

Yeah, they don't soft-toss the ball to the plate, which is what you could say about the "defense" that you see in NBA All-Star games.

I don't mind the lack of defense in the all-star game since there's no home court advantage or anything on the line. I also enjoy seeing them do stuff that they wouldn't do in a regular game.

DeMar DeRozan of Toronto Raptors slams 'prop dunk contest' - ESPN

"I'm a dunker. Dunk contests, you go out there and dunk. I'm not into all the props and everything," DeRozan said at shootaround before Tuesday's game against Charlotte. "I try to come out with a creative dunk and do it and go from there. My fans liked it and you can see the reaction from a lot of people afterward.

"If there's a dunk contest next year I'll do it. But not no prop dunk contest."

He's right. I enjoyed the dunk contest but the results were a joke. Blake Griffin won via popularity contest. He might have been the third best dunker there. McGee was robbed and shouldn't even bother doing the dunk contest next year. I'm not even sure how it works anymore. Howard can throw the ball, Nate Robinson can push off Howard to leap over him and now, Griffin can do an average dunk because he jumps over the hood of the car. Like I said, I enjoyed the dunks. But I thought the choir was stupid and the results were awful. It's as bad as thinking the Heat/Mavs and Kings/Lakers playoff series were rigged while you watched and later found out Tim Donaghy reffed those games. Starting to think NBA is as fake as WWE.

DeRozan got robbed, and it may have been partially because the car dunk HAD to be done at some point for promotional purposes. That 46 that beat DeMar by one was awfully suspicious. That said, I'm not going to act like I wasn't excited to see what Griffin would do next...but the car thing was way overrated.

He jumped over the hood. Woohoo. My guess is most decent NBA dunkers could do that. Now if he proved the Kobe video was possible and cleared the top...Different story.

Dude that 360 was sick. Against the grain statue of liberty style? You can't appreciate that?

I'm sorry, the FT line dunk has been done so many times, and almost every time it's done with no flair. It's boring. MJ did it best. Carter almost topped him with 2 hands (but took off from well inside the line). A 7-footer dunking 1 handed with no style is boring.

Every other FT line dunker took off inside the line, I'm pretty sure...and Ibaka didn't

The ball of Jordan's foot was on the line, which I count as "from the FT line". It looked like all of Ibaka's foot was behind the line but my problem with that is you didn't even know until slo-mo replay. If you need replay to know that it was a cool dunk then it wasn't that cool, IMO. His dunk was not spectacular at normal speed.
