The Braves play the Phillies in Philly at 7:15. Max Fried 13-6 will be starting for the Braves against 9-5 Ranger Suarez of the Phillies. If the Braves win tonight they will be .5 games behind since the Mets are off tonight. I'm concerned that Max Fried may be getting arm trouble he's been off in his performances the last few games.
I think they pushed his start back one game so maybe that will help. Hopefully we can clinch the division and he will get some rest by us getting a bye from the Wildcard Round. If the Mets are forced to use Scherzer and deGrom in the Wildcard Round then that will put them at a huge disadvantage.

I wish the Mets were playing tonight and not off

Yeah me too. But at least we are tied in the loss column. That’s what really matters at the end of the day. Braves control their destiny.
I think the Braves should let Dansby Swanson go if he's asking for too much money and switch Vaughn Grissom to shortstop in 2023. Dansby Swanson is starting to cool off with the bat.

I think that’s what will eventually happen. I would love to keep Dansby and shift Grissom to LF if he can adapt. I just don’t see it happening. Can’t extend all of these guys and not put any money into an elite pitcher. I’m hoping they go all-in for deGrom.

I hope the Braves can get deGrom then the Braves might be World Series bound once again.

He might be the most genuine athlete in sports that we have right now. He never passes up on an opportunity to interact with fans. It’s guys like him that make sports fun. I have nothing but respect for him.
At spring training I saw him interact with people wanting autographs. He passed on the guys who were clearly wanting his autograph on a photo or a pristine ball to be sold later. But when a kid was around, holding up a used baseball that was clearly for the kid to keep, that would get his autograph. I appreciated how he took care of the kids.

Very disappointing game from the Braves. Get shutout 1-0. Acuña was held out due to back tightness. The lineup didn’t make any sense to me. Harris and Grissom should’ve been batting 1-2. Instead he slides Dansby and Contreras into those spots? Just another example of malpractice from Snitker. I guess the entire offense other than Riley took the night off as well so it really didn’t matter in the end. Fried didn’t pitch his most efficient game but pitched more than well enough to win and instead took the lose due to a slumping offense. You watch, the Braves will end up losing this division by 1 game. And I will be putting 100% of the blame on Snitker.

  • 1908 - Fred Merkle of the New York Giants failed to touch second base as the apparent winning run crossed home plate in a crucial game with the Chicago Cubs. The ensuing dispute resulted in the game being declared a tie and played over on Oct. 8 when the Cubs and Giants ended the season in a tie.

  • 1925 - Washington shortstop Roger Peckinpaugh, a .294 hitter, is named the American League Most Valuable Player with 45 points; A's outfielder Al Simmons is second with forty-one.

  • 1936 - Carl Hubbell notches his sixteenth consecutive victory, his 26th of the year. King Carl beats the Phils, 5-4. He resumes the streak next year to reach a record 24 wins in a row.

  • 1952 - The Brooklyn Dodgers clinched the National League pennant, the first time since 1948 that the pennant wasn't decided in the season's final game.

  • 1957 - Hank Aaron's eleventh-inning homer gave the Milwaukee Braves a 4-2 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals and the National League pennant. It was the first time since 1950 that a New York team hadn't finished first.

  • 1961 - Ernie Banks voluntarily takes the bench as a sore knee brings his 717 consecutive-games-played streak to an end.

  • 1962 - A 12-2 Dodgers' loss at St. Louis is enlivened by Maury Wills, who ties Ty Cobb's long-standing Major League single-season record of 96 steals by swiping second base after singling in the third, and breaks it with a repeat performance in the seventh.

  • 1978 - The Angels' 27-year-old outfielder Lyman Bostock, a .311 lifetime hitter, is killed by a shotgun blast while riding in a car in Gary, Indiana. The shot was meant for one of the other passengers in the car.

  • 1979 - Lou Brock stole base No. 938, breaking Billy Hamilton's record, as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Mets 7-4 in 10 innings.

  • 1983 - Steve Carlton of Philadelphia posted his 300th career victory with a 6-2 win over the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium.

  • 1984 - The Detroit Tigers beat the New York Yankees 4-1, making Sparky Anderson the first manager ever to win more than 100 games in each league.

  • 1986 - Rookie left-hander Jim Deshaies set a Major League record by striking out eight to start the game and finished with a two-hitter and 10 strikeouts to lead the Houston Astros past the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-0.

  • 1988 - Oakland's Jose Canseco becomes the founder of baseball's 40-homer, 40-stolen base club by stealing two bases in a 9-8, 14-inning win over Milwaukee. He also hits his 41st home run.

  • 1992 - Bip Roberts tied the National League record with his 10th consecutive hit, then grounded out against Pedro Astacio to end his streak in the Cincinnati Reds' game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

  • 1997 - It's clinching day in Major League baseball. The Indians clinch their third consecutive American League Central title, the Mariners secure their second American League West crown in three years, and the Marlins are in the playoffs for the first time ever.

  • 1998 - Houston's Craig Biggio became only the second player this century to have 50 steals and 50 doubles in a season, joining Hall of Famer Tris Speaker. Biggio, with 51 doubles, singled for his second hit of the game and easily stole his 50th base with two outs in the sixth.

I believe 👆 was known as Merkle’s boner. I’m not kidding.

Edit: yes, this was Merkle’s boner: Merkle's Boner - Wikipedia

Sent me down a rabbit hole reading more: the pitchers in the replayed game were Christy Mathewson for the Giants and ‘Three Finger’ Mordeci Brown for the Cubs.
