The Draft was sad

Well we get 1/2 credit for Hurd.

I believe we only had about 8 or 10 scholly Seniors, so that didn't help. Best prospects were Tuttle, Phillips, Abernathy and Sapp. Three of those guys have had a lot of injuries.

Look on the bright side: 10 bama starters will be in the NFL and not playing us next year. Geo 7, Fl 5, Ky 4, MissSt 5, Mizzou 2, SCAR 3, Vandy 2.

Some other undrafted surprises: RBs Crockett and Holyfield and WR Emanuel Hall not drafted. I thought Hall was a 1st rounder.

Honestly who did we believe had a shot of being drafted? I guess Tuttle or Phillips might’ve had an outside shot in the late rounds but that’s all I can think of off hand.

What makes it worse is the talent gap between us and our rivals is continuing to widen. We brought in some good freshman this year, but our rivals are bringing in so much more. Pruitt is a good coach , but he just doesn’t have what it takes to overcome that gap neither.

That all depends on who you are talking about when you say "rivals". Tennessee has lost 3 in a row to Vanderbilt, 3 in a row to South Carolina and 2 in a row to Missouri. The type of class that Pruitt just signed should be plenty good enough to beat those teams as well as Kentucky if (and this is a big 'if' here) the players are well developed into a good system without a great deal of attrition.

Those are not rivals and it’s says it all that we have to wonder if our signing class is good enough to pull ahead of any of those teams, let alone all 3.

Man, that is reality and it says so much about the program. But... at some point that will change, this coming season will be better on many fronts, and should provide the momentum to keep rolling. I am finally optimistic... but not 10-2 optimistic......... someday tough.

There are no magic fixes for overcoming that gap, you just have to choose your guy and give him time. I think Pruitt can be that guy, he will need more than 3-4 years which no one on this site seems interested in giving a coach. The draft the last few years have shown how little talent is at Tennessee and the little talent that existed was poorly utilized and coached, that makes it easy for other teams to negative recruit us, the goal is the nfl and we are not helping kids reach their goal these last few coaching tenures. I see that changing, but I think it will be slower than many are reasonably willing to wait. It would be great if we could quit condemning a new coach in his first season as a failure. UT is not a top tier team, it should be, it will be again, but it currently is a top flight facility with a lesser talented team occupying it. Pruitt is not fun, he's not that likable, but the guy can flat out coach and recruit in my opinion. He needs to keep getting better and improving talent and I think the success will come. I am excited to be a vol and looking forward to the future.

Call them what you want... they are teams we play every year who are currently kicking our a$$. Will come down to player development and a quality system like I said.

Not really. Alabama and Georgia gave stacked rosters. They’re at the top talent-wise. But once you have top-tier talent it’s not like you “keep widening the talent gap.” Their depth makes them tough, but at the end of the day it’s 11 guys vs 11 guys on each play.

Butch Jones went 0 for the whole draft. Sad job of not taking care of Tennessee Football.
Speak LOUDER... he can't hear you....
