The Vols unveiled a new formation in delivering Tauren Poole into the end zone for the team's first touchdown against Vanderbilt, lining up mammoth true freshman offensive tackle Antonio "Tiny" Richardson in the backfield alongside fullback Ben Bartholomew.
With the Bartholomew-Richardson hole cleared, Poole hurdled untouched into the end zone.
"I don't know. He looked good, man," said UT coach Derek Dooley when asked if Richardson might even get a carry from the formation. "When that guy saw him he just fell to the ground. [As if to say] 'I ain't taking on that guy.' We walked in. Probably should have done that. Looked a lot better than our throws down there."
Left tackle Dallas Thomas said Richardson's arrival into the huddle brought plenty of excitement.
"Man, when I seen my man Tiny come in. I was too happy to see him come in. The huddle atmosphere man we just got too hype," Thomas said. "He came in. We opened the hole up for him and he just blew that linebacker up. I was too excited.
"I love it. I hope we keep running it too. It's a big difference to have him back there and us in the front. It's like the red sea parting.
"He just came through like a bulldozer and plowed everything back."
Dooley joked again about Richardson perhaps getting a short-yardage carry because of the Vols' struggles in those situations and sophomore quarterback Tyler Bray's inability to take snaps under center as he recovers from a painful broken thumb injury that required surgery.
"We could still run it, but he'd be at 4 yards of depth," Dooley said of utilizing a quarterback sneak. "I don't know. Might put Tiny in for the sneak."
