The Definitive Class Size Thread

So, based on what I took from the various articles, UT could sign as many as 28, (3 back counted EE's, 22 in 2012 class + 25 for 2013 signing class) provided enough people graduate, transfer, move to the NFL or are asked to move on by CCJ, correct???? If we sign fewer than 28 this year, that difference could be used to sign EE's next year that would count towards this years class plus up to 25 for the 2014 class. Again, provided that we don't exceed the 85 max scholarship roster limits. Is that right???

Assuming all 22 were attributed to 2012 yes. I don't recall how many were in Kiffin's class, but if it was at least 25 then no one in 2012 back counted so that would be the numbers we are looking at. 85 is the number to watch honestly.

I'm pretty sure we had a full class of 28 the prior year but not sure if any of THEM were back counted to a prior year. Will need to keep a spread sheet from year to year to keep up with all of this stuff.

Ya, with Kiffin it had to have been a pretty full class. I'd work off the number of 22 moving forward. Honestly, I'd be pretty amazed if CBJ has enough attrition to get us to 28 available slots.

So how many can UT sign this year? Don't feel like doing the math.

We're currently at 69 scholarship players, or 16 below the 85 limit. Assuming that Bray and CP will declare that will take the number to 18. Any more defections will obviously increase that number.

We can only back count 3 scholarships is the rule, but there are always exceptions. The back counting rule only applies if the last signing class was under the limit...If you lose more players you can back count EE's.

A&M and Mizzou are not under the SEC's mandate until next year. That is why A&M can have 33 commits...

EEs count the year they enroll. All of our current EEs will enroll in school in 2013, be counted in the 2013 recruiting class, and play in the 2013 football season. They are 2013 recruits, just starting school a little early. They can only fill slots in the previous recruiting class that is under 25, otherwise they count in the total for the current 25.

Incorrect, EE count on the previous years class, which is part of the reason why it is beneficial for a college to have EE in addition to spring practice. I think there is a limit on the number of EE's you can have, but not sure what the number is.

The only limit on back counting is 25 recruits the year before or 85 total schollies. Cincy had 7 back counts last year.

Glad to see a few spots open up on the roster so Butch can get a few more of his guys in this year. I think we have a great shot at North since CP is leaving along with Hunter. As much as I would like a few more offensive weapons, I'm more concerned about building a stellar D. Obviously Dooley didn't know how to develop talent. The morale was suffocated. CBJ is Reviving Big Orange Nation, and it's going to taste sweet when we rise back up!
