The topic of class size has to be the most discussed/argued about topic on this entire forum. So much misinformation has been spread and confusion is rampant on this system which is honestly very, very simple. There's only really three things to remember:

Division 1 Football programs can have 85 scholarship players

Teams may sign 25 players per year

If there is room available in the previous class below the 25 limit, teams may back count early enrollees to the previous year.

Commits and signees are obviously not the same thing which is how some teams can currently have 30+ commits. Come football season, only a player attributable to the current or prior class could be on the roster.

Grey shirts and sign-and-places are really not signings and should be almost completely ignored. They are complicated and should matter little to us.

I'll update those topics if I see anything else relevant around the forum. Hope this helps...

I think you should do a little more research on this topic. I'm sure the NCAA has something in writing that explains this process in detail. The SEC put a mandate at 25 per year a few years ago in an effort to slow down Ole Miss and Houston Nutt. You are correct about the 85 limit though.

Do you have to count EE's to the current year, or are they the one's backcounted from last years?

EEs count the year they enroll. All of our current EEs will enroll in school in 2013, be counted in the 2013 recruiting class, and play in the 2013 football season. They are 2013 recruits, just starting school a little early. They can only fill slots in the previous recruiting class that is under 25, otherwise they count in the total for the current 25.

You say I should do more research, but then agree with everything I said. I clearly stated the limits are 25 and 85.

A&M has 33 right now

You can have 100 commits, but you can only bring in 25

So if a&m keeps all 33 commits and don't get anymore from now until nsd, then 8 kids are gonna be told to look elsewhere

Ok so the OP is wrong about how EE's work. So instead of just pointing that out and not saying anything else, why don't you people tell us what the CORRECT info is regarding EE's. Sorry but its getting REALLY old reading a thousand posts that will point out someones wrong without adding anything to the discussion or giving the correct info. Just because you can say someone id wrong doesn't make you any smarter than the person that was wrong. In fact making a point to point of someone else's mistakes without giving the correct info just proves how ignorant some people really are.

You're correct on the EE part. I removed it; however, I'm still pretty positive there is a rule on maxing out back counts at 2. I'll grab a link.

I thought the same earlier this year as well, but both Bama and Georgia fans brought quotes from articles on their 247 site stating that the SEC never did cap the number that you can backcount.

The guy with links provided the correct EE information.

A team can only have 25 scholarship players per year. If they want more than that, then they have to walk-on. The total still must remain under 85

(4) Reduced the permissible number of signees from 28 to 25 and moves back the start date for the window for counting date back to Dec. 1. Allow signees to be exempt from the 25 limit if they can be counted as an initial counter in the current year. - via AJC

I still believe I read a 2 player cap in an article somewhere. I'll look around the SEC site. For now, it seems as long as the player is an EE he is eligible for any slot under 25 from the previous year.

I don't think too many commitments will be a problem. I only hope Jones and staff will be able to add a handful of impact players before signing day.
