the Cut effect

The Duke effect could be bad. Pryor is gone. Luke and Roper are prob gone and I believe Luke was our recruiting coordinator. If Trooper leaves to be the Baylor OC which is likely since I doubt he becomes the Tenn OC there goes one of our best recruiters. That prob would've happened with Cutcliffe leaving or not however. Despite all this I think we make some good hiring moves and eventually benefit from all this.

this may be why our recruiting was lookin dismal this year. Everyone is looking for another job instead of recruiting.

this may turn out to be a blessing in disguise.

I'm suprised more people aren't thrilled about all the coaching changes. Earlier in the year everyone wanted to clean house...now they get there wish...even with a decent season.

exactly what I was thinking. I really don't think it is a bad thing. Could really make for some exciting football next year if we get the right folks in there. I wish Cutty good luck at Duke, he is going to need it.

One thought about Cut/Phil during the season. It seemed like the Vols game plan had the potential to open things up at will, especially early in games and they had the D off balance, and made things look easy.....then suddenly they seemed to go into a funk and looked like they ran out of ideas and reverted to a limited game plan, or just plain pulled in the reins.

I read post game reports where Cut thought that HE may have taken his foot on the gas a little bit early. I am wondering if he got that advice through his headset? I hope not, as this would imply that the next OC will be on a string and the Vols will play HCPF-ball all over again, until they get it right.

I honestly think that the problem with Cut was that he was infatuated with the passing game. After all, he is considered the guru of quaterbacks. The running game always took a back seat to the passing game this year and its a shame considering what we were able to do on the ground this year. A balanced attack is what gave UT the upperhand in the 80's and 90's and this is what we need to get back to. Hopefully we can get a young and eager OC that will want to pound the rock to open up the passing game and then as teh defense wears down late in the game run it down their throats. Fast defenses have a hard time with a strong smash-mouth running game.

Losing Roper and Luke will be a positive. If we do in fact lose Slade that will be a positive.

Losing Cut will hurt our QB development and obviously we are out of the Pryor race now. But if we make a good hire (i.e. Kippy Brown) then I think our OC production might pick up and our recruiting via the OC position should be improved.

Losing Taylor will hurt recruiting some but not in such a drastic way that he cant be replaced. It just depends on who we hire.

I read somewhere that recruiting was not exactly Kippy's strength. That was one of the main reasons he went to the NFL and stayed for so long. If this is true, I'm not sure your last sentence is right.
