Did anyone notice the clock stopping on their last scoring drive when they didn't get the first down?

I was wondering what happened? I was sitting there wondering what was going on. They didn't measure for the first down and it was like Fla. got a free time out. I know there should have been at least 40 seconds come off the clock but the officials just let it go. I think it was at about the 5:31 left in the game.

It was completely inexplicable.

I was yelling at the tv myself. It made no sense.

Me too.

I just didn't know whether someone was hurt or what was going on. I just knew the clock was stopped and both teams were just hanging out on the sideline. And, nobody was being charged with a timeout.

I believe there was a problem with the chains.

Yes, but before that happened, one line judge moved to a spot clearly a yard ahead of where the runner landed and waved to stop the clock. They then proceeded to leave the clock stopped despite the fact they set the ball properly and called it third and 1. I can only assume the chains moved because of the actions of the erroneous ref and had to be brought back.

Could have been a huge deal if Fla had gotten first downs on their next drive.

After a measurement, one end of the chain became disconnected from the marker. Not sure if that is the time you are referencing, but it was around then.

Not sure if it was the same one or not but there was an instance where they stopped the clock when it was obvious they didn't have a first down. It was obvious because the markers on both sides of the field were on the hash marks and the ball was spotted halfway between the hash marks. They did measure, though and were obviously short.

It was Butch... he saw the gators were not resilient, or motivated, or in good condition... and he asked the refs to slow the roll to let em rest up, cause the Vols were not quite done administering the azz whipping.
