I will start by saying I'd be ok with him if hired based on the options we have. One major stat hit me when I did some digging.

His record against Dan Mullen at Mississippi State. He lost 3 of the last 4 games against Mullen - who will be the head coach at our most hated rival in the east. You would expect he had better talent at A&M than Dan had in Starkville, yet he has a losing record against him. Most years, Florida has more talent than us so it would not bode well. On the other hand, at least maybe he can beat Muschamp and Vandy so it would be a step in the right direction.

Not relevant. If you think UT is going to get a Coach who has beat all the Top Tier Coaches you need to get your head out of the sand. Sumlin not a bad option as you said so the fan base needs to stop posting negative comments about potential candidates.

No! Personally I like Sumlin but we don't want him as a coach; always seems laid back. Here in Texas I see most of the A&M games & you don't want him at TN.

Not so fast my friend. Muschamp beat him when he was with Florida in 2012. Additionally he never won more than 8 games without Johnny Football.

The guy seems to have taken the last few years off from coaching. He’s getting millions from tx am for not coaching.

With the Schiano fiasco, Currie ensured that top-tier coaches are not going to take this job.

It sucks for that to be the case, but that is the fallout that we are dealing with from Currie being our AD. Sumlin is definitely in the strata of coaches that will be willing to come here and work with Currie, given what has happened, and given the fact that more than likely Currie will ultimately get fired for how he handled the search.

Well contrary to the simpletons who criticized Mullen a few weeks back, Mullen is a dang good coach and wish we had him so I don’t hold that against Sumlin. Speaks more to Mullen than is does about Sumlin.

I was hoping to see the opposite when I checked. Not trying to be negative about the guy and if we hire him, I'll cheer for him to win. I wanted to see a winning record against Mullen just to have something to hang our hat on.

I'm not as worried about a coach's record against better teams (so what if Butch at a mid-major lost to Dooley at an SEC school), but I'd like to see them do better against teams on a level playing field (his peers).

at this point, just hire a coach and see what he does (none of us can see the future). But knowing our past, just start putting money into the buyout fund so we are ready to replace them in 3 years IF they do not work out. all that matters is what they do on the football field - hope for the best, plan for the worst

Unless our AD grows a pair and offers Kiffin we may as well as support Sumlin. He's better than Dooley, Lyle and Schiano as well as several coaches in the SEC. He's not perfect but probably our best option at the moment to end this circus

Seriously? All of the dogging of way lesser qualified candidates and we are going to be picky about Kevin Sumlin? Some of his issues could have dealt with wrong staff, most of them could be the fact that he was playing in a tougher division than most whole conferences. I'd take him in a heartbeat...way more than Doeren or Schiano who, mind you, were the original and terrible choices of our incompetent AD.

If we get Sumlin I hope he can convince The Chief Chavis to come back!

Why?

It doesn't matter who the DC is, if Sumlin is there... go look at the last three seasons at TAM.... heck just watch the LSUvTAM from Saturday. That is not on Chavis, its on Sumlin.

Given how close we were to having Doeren as our coach...I can live with that.
