I’m going to post this in a new thread BECAUSE it shows how a school (and the powers that matter) got so tired of losing that they checked their egos and made the right move.

Tennessee power brokers are like Jerry Jones right now...they only want to win if it is on their terms.

Ridiculous!

38 Days: How Alabama Pulled off the Great Heist of Nick Saban

Well Mal Moore understood Mike Shula wasn’t the answer for Alabama. Just as Phil Fulmer should see that in Jeremy Pruitt. People also tend to forget Shula went 10-2 in 2005; followed by a 6-7 year in 2006 and lost his job. Yes folks Mike Shula lost his job for a six win season....Gus lost his job for a six win season. Some on here are totally content with less than mediocre and a six win season. I know we hate Bama, and Florida; but when they see the writing on the wall at least they have the balls to pull the plug.

That’s what p!$$es me off the most right now. We aren’t firing coaches for going 3-7!!!

Anybody who is anybody should be lining up to get this fixed!

Bama saw UT getting the best of them and knew they had to make a change. When you're used to eating Hamburger Steak, Ribeye's are nice to have and not a necessity. That's what being used to mediocrity will do to a program.

What does it take to wake up the people who matter?

Not a Saban out there but there are guys who can at least kick the crap out of Arkansas and get us competitive with the big 3. Get there then we can figure out how to start winning some of those games. We will have to overpay but we have already been paying, on average, $11.45M/yr for our coaches and staff since Dooley was fired due to the buyouts. Instead of paying buyouts lets just go overpay for a coach who can AT LEAST be competitive with UGA and UF.

Apparently that is too much to ask

Oh I agree with you; Fulmer should have never extended that olive branch and provided an extension of any type.
Fulmer is the problem here. It is his job to put a successful plan together and sell it to the boosters. I just have a feeling they are not willing to buy what he is selling and we are stuck in a grave situation. Someday there will be a business school case study about not how to run an athletic department and Fulmer will be the poster child.

I enjoyed reading this article a few months ago. I have nothing but respect and admiration for Mal Moore. He knew what had to be done and he refused to accept no.

But that is what it takes for any organization to be successful...a real leader with a real vision and commitment to success. Why can’t UT have someone like that?

Why the hell cant Fulmer pull on his big boy britches and be Mal Moore.

I see two feasible coaches out there that I think could knock it out of the park (Campbell and Freeze, in that order). Are the politics at UT and boosters such that you can’t make it happen? If so, WTH can’t it be so?

I think we have a lot of Jerry Jones-like dumbasses in our boosters (and I live in the DFW area so I know that all too well). They would rather lose than let someone else choose the coach.

Jerry would rather watch Robert Kraft lift Lobardi Trophies than to allow Bill Belichik to win them.

Utter idiots! Just win baby!

Dickey used to be good at booster unity. It took a lot of that to get rid of Majors. That cohesion fell apart because Fulmer worked hard to ingratiate himself with certain boosters who go to bat for him to this day. He rooted in like a tick after David Cutcliffe left because he knew rocky waters were coming. It saved him for 5 or 6 years longer than he should have. It took a booster split to get him out and that split is still going.

When has the university ever hired the right coach

1000% correct op. There are a couple of important factors that led to this going down. One is that they absolutely sold out to get Saban. That was the guy he wanted. Mal made it known (to Saban) and then stayed persistent.

We need a leader like that right now. It’s so sad because fulmer could really be the savior. We have a great coach out there that’s said tn is his dream job he’d still need to be persuaded (as he has a really good situation at Liberty). That’s why fulmer would need to go to him and sell him on a vision of redemption and what his status would be in college football if he was the guy to bring them back.

But we all know this won’t happen. Fulmer is a coward. He’s not a big vision guy that’ll occasionally thank a bug chance. I have no doubt that fulmer will attach himself to Pruitt (and even though in his heart is able to recognize that Pruitt is a total idiot that’ll never be the world class football coach it’ll take to get tn back to the top of the sec)...fulmer will be more likely to bury his head in the sand and hope we’re all wrong amd Pruitt suddenly does because an intelligent poised leader that’s a great communicator (lol). So what this will do is seal fulmers fair with Pruitt. The higher ups at the university will shift their frustration from Pruitt to fulmer amd fulmer will be fired next season before Pruitt.

How can fulmer not recognize exactly how this will go. I guess if you’re a guy that sat in an interview with Jeremy Pruitt and though ya this is the guy I want to be the ceo of our football program...you can’t be someone that’s capable of sorting things out the way I just did.

Shula finished his 4th year and had a ~3 m buyout. It’s easier for the Admin to believe this is a one-off year than to believe Pruitt’s not capable. Unless the infractions are serious or Pruitt just quits, he will be here next year.

Well Mal was like Bear; come hell or high water he was going to do what was best for the program. Not too sure on the Bama was worried about UT aspect. Mal Moore saw a shift and LSU capture two BCS titles and saw Florida back on the up swing with Meyer; who eventually captured two himself.

BS...it’s about choosing to win...or not. Good Ol’ 3-7 Phil showed us his priority.

Shula only coached Bama from 2003-2006 he got an extension of 6 years in 05’ after the 10-2 season. He didn’t come back in 07’ Saban came in and they paid Shula 4m to leave Tuscaloosa.
