Without going back to see which posts you're talking about, there is a blueprint for beating us playing the way we've played before today. We took a different offensive approach, today, kind of out of necessity. This was evident, but also mentioned by Dane Bradshaw, specifically in the broadcast. Not really hard to see we were far more focused on getting the ball into the paint. Also more evident, and also mentioned in the broadcast, is that Lanier worked much harder to get open today than he has all year. Florida defended him exactly as they did in Gainesville, but he worked so much harder and aggressively coming off screens to get open, and then of course, he hit his shots today, which makes a difference. Some really serious bad takes in this discussion. it really did not age well.
So did Barnes come up with the game plan today against Fla or what ? A real team effort with every player contributing against formidable odds. .
Coach Majors mother had a really good perspective when she said “everyone burns the biscuits once in a while”.
Great post. Spot on. A factor to consider about Lanier was that he was open off a lot of screens in the 2nd half because Gainey is a threat around the free throw extension. Because of his diminutive size, ZZ doesn't create any real threat in that area. Defenders don't sag to help as often. With Gainey penetrating, the help defense on Lanier isn't as intense. Yep. It think they learned their lesson ( I hope) after that KY loss. It looked like a more conscious effort to get to the basket was made today. If that's not there after you try a few times then you take the the 3. I mean you still take some when left wide open but be in better position to rebound. The print too win is in, work inside out. Make the commitment to penetrate the paint. It’s a lot harder on defenses with you don’t just keep jacking up 3’s. Continue to penetrate. Think inside out! GBO
I think all involved have known that for a while. We didn't recruit Knecht or Lanier e.g. for their proven defensive prowess.This.
Great teams figure out a way to win close games. Especially at home.
We're a good team because of our defensive. We will not be a great team tho, because of our offense.
The lesson to learn here is you can't hyper-focus on defense to the point you have no offense.
Balance. If we learn anything as a program this year ( and last few years), hopefully it is this. We need balance.
It's more than just recruiting a player that has a good ppg average or something. You have to practice/coach/focus/game plan it, too. We've seen guys not progress here in that department and even regress ( as far as stats).I think all involved have known that for a while.
