Good to get in the win column again in a conference home game. This was a game we couldn't afford to give away, and we made enough plays down the stretch to get it done, 71-63.

The Good...
1. Armani Moore's best game of the season, hands down. 19 pts, 13 rebs, 1 asst, 2 stls, 2 blks, 3 TOs. One amazing one-handed putback dunk, and an amazing block. He had 6 points on one possession on the 2nd half.

2. We dominated the boards 34-26, and had 15 ORebs, many of them led to 2nd chance points, or opportunities to run some clock late.

3. Our defense was very active and we really got into passing lanes and forced a lot of action around the perimeter. Even when AU got the ball inside to Bowers, we did a good job of challenging him without anyone near his size. Unfortunately, AU did make some tough shots from outside to stay close.

4. 26-31 from the FT line. This is where the game was won, the 2nd half especially. Great job of taking advantage of those opportunities.

5. Kevin Punter played really well again. 17 pts, 2 rebs, 2 assts, 2 stls, 2 TOs. 5-7 from the field and 3-4 from 3.

The Bad...
1. We lost open shooters on the perimeter more than we have lately, and AU made us pay a couple times. A couple other times, they just made tough shots. Harrell and Shamsid-Dean were 6-13 from 3.

2. 13 TOs is too many and 5 from JRich is troubling, but I think it is apparent that he is fighting fatigue. He did counter those TOs with 6 assts, so not all bad.

3. Derek Reese finished with 11 points, but he really needs to find the off switch from outside. Not only is he struggling, but his shot is looking flatter and flatter and his mechanics are off. He needs to know when to reel it in.

4. Willie Carmichael is still a mental midget on the floor. I wish Owens wasn't so physically underwhelming. They both have real limitations, but I think Owens is improving (if only slightly) while Carmichael is regressing.

Bottom Line...
Great to send Bruce home with a loss. He was great for us at a time, and seeing him back in TBA brought back some good memories. He has only good things to say about his time here. All the same, a great win and we showed some resilience to fight through some rough patches in the 2nd half.

Auburn wasn't the best team we will play here at home but that game may be one of the toughest they'll have to play. It has been circled for a while by both teams and both coaches. Winning that game by one point would make me happy, that's a win and move on kinda game. I could tell our players felt a little bit of pressure to get this one for the fans, glad they did.

Good stuff.

Carmichael is really frustrating right now. I wish Woodson wasn't an idiot and McGhee had not gotten hurt but alas.

Owens really impressed me today. Hubbs played well on D. Need Punter to shoot more threes.

I heard Tyndall's interview before the game on radio, and he was asked about Owens. He said his frame and weight are really holding him back. He said he expects him to be really good once he can get stronger.

I think he could be a solid rim protector and rebounder if he adds some bulk, just because he's got length and athleticism. I doubt he ever turns into much offensively.

As do I. He is only limited physically. Obviously not a finished product mentally, but miles ahead of Carmichael. Willie just looks like he knows something bad will happen when he touches the ball, and it usually does. He has hit a mental wall, and he is thinking too much right now.

Carmichael has shown a flash here and there with a post move but about once every few games. Moving forward, he needs to be a motor guy. Defense and rebounding.

Tyndall said he can hit a 15 footer. Insinuated that he could develop a good offensive game.

Good write up.

One thing to add to the "bad"...worst officiated game I've ever seen!! First half was especially brutal. Refs absolutely destroyed any flow to the game.

Also good to see CBP back in TBA. Like him or not, the guy has a lot to do with putting UT bball back on the map after some disastrous coaching hires.

Owens looks like he has good skills with the ball (he shoots it and handles it just fine). I have been thinking that all he needs to do is get in the weight room and training table and pick up about twenty pounds of muscle. If he does, he might turn into an All-SEC caliber player.

UT has lost at least a few games this season at the FT line but not today! They listened to their coach and drove the ball into the paint where they were either fouled or took a high percentage shot instead of setting for outside jump shots.

I don't know if they said anything about the officiating on TV but we had great seats and the officiating from our view was horrendous. The block call against Reese and the charge call right after that against JRich were ridiculous. Reese was set so long he could have had lunch.

I agree that you'll see a glimmer of hope every fourth game or so, but they are very few and far between. You're right about him needing to be a motor guy who focuses on rebounding and defense, but he'll have to do it without fouling, a problem for him.

I think he could become a 10 pt, 8 reb, 3 blk kind of guy by midway through his JR year if he has a great offseason in terms of weight-gain and strength training, and continues to improve his skills. You can tell from his FT stroke that he has good shooting fundamentals for a big kid.

He has a lot of hustle in him too. Dove for a ball in the Arky game and came up with a big possession.

The clock kept messing up. That was disruptive for everybody.

I've seen worse officiating this year... especially at Miss State. It was really getting chippy and they weren't constantly blowing the whistle. I'm sure that some calls were missed. That's been happening every game.

I agree with Reese. Not sure why he has the green light to bombs away but with how weak our inside game is, come up to the top to help move the ball or set a pick and then go back. Not sure why he takes that shot. I close my eyes everytime he releases the ball.

Hubbs is going to be special. He settles for that outside shot too much. He has a quick first step and could average 12 a game if he took it in more. So excited about this kid.

Good write-up, Chris. As for Reese, you know how if a lot of coaches (if they KNOW that you have that shot and you make them in practice) will tell you to keep shooting until you work through it? I think that may be the reason he kept firing. He did hit a nice three getting near the end that helped, although I know his percentage was not good..
