The Atlanta Braves

Still think Nationals are the favorites but Phillies ahead of us now. They added the best catcher in baseball, a top 10 SS, and a guy with a career 139 OPS+...I have little hope for this year now.
We’re good man. We won the East last year.

It’s going to be a dog fight.

What’s interesting is the out of the top 4 NL east teams, I don’t trust any of the managers.

Just reading the tea leaves, the biggest risk really for the Phils is his health. Especially as he get what older.

Either way this deal ain’t crippling them in any way.

Not at 25M per AND the deal is front loaded. Yeah the 13 years is eye popping and no opt outs and a NTC. But even if he never puts up his 2015 season again but produces like he did in 2017 for the next few years it will be worth it.

It’s Boras so HUUUGGGEEEE grain of salt but he says Bryce has offers on the table for $45M AAV (probably the Dodgers).

Apparently front loaded deal. But still probably best player deal in sports history.

When Bryce Harper gets his final paycheck from the Phillies in 2031, Bobby Bonilla will still be four years away from his final paycheck from the Mets.

I don’t know anything about the billionaire who owns the Phillies, but in a league with no salary cap it’s only stupid if you let yourself be constrained by it down the road. Maybe he’s willing to eat the back half of it if necessary.
That has to be the thought. I guess if they win 2 WS, it'll all be worth it.

Lol that will bite them in the ass

I don’t think it will. He probably won’t be worth the contract in after age 35 but he could still be an average to above average bat at DH.

Besides there paying for the next seven years.

I'd take Josh and Nick. No way I want a contract that long if I was an owner.

If we had Bryce for the next five years, we basically lock up the division for the next five years considering how much better our farm is compared to our divisional rivals. What’s that worth to ya?
