This is us in tent city at Thumrait, Oman. We flew missions on C-17s carrying troops and gear into Afghanistan at a location called Camp Rhino. As the plane we were on flew over the border into Afghanistan, they had to black all the lights on the plane out and land it using night vision goggles so we wouldn’t get shot down. They corkscrewed the plane down and then landed it in a dried up riverbed. Offloaded everyone and everything and were back up in the sky in 12 minutes.

I was. I walked into 3rd period math class and the TV was on. I had enlisted 61 days prior to that day.

I remember students being pulled from class who had family that lived/worked in the city.

I honestly do not want to start a political debate but look at what happens with mass shootings today (not taking any sides) so I don’t know. First, I hope we never see anything like that again but I really hope we could overcome that if needed.

That’s the great thing about America. Regardless of race, color, religion, or political party, a day like that unites this great country.

I watched the second plane hit, and the towers fall. Then I went to gym class. We didn’t really do anything.

My recruiter called me after school that day. I find it kind of funny now, but when I enlisted, war handnt even crossed my mind. Within a month and a half of arriving at my first unit, I was in the invasion of Iraq.
