The only reason I can think is they are fully committed to Dans, Ozzie, and Johan getting as many AB’s as possible and didn’t want to take the chance of bringing in Murphy and alienating him and it causing issues. He’s awful defensively but having him as a late PH would be so nice.

If this were the case (I don’t think it is) then AA can go kick every last rock on the way back to Kansas City.

There are no legit reasons to not have made the claim, he monumentally makes our team better the moment in walks in the clubhouse. Plus, he knows the NL East as good as anyone. A Murph/Ozzie platoon could’ve been deadly. Ozzie just hasn’t been good the second half, and he doesn’t have enough clout to potentially bitch about bringing in a guy like DM. But, I really don’t see him being that type anyway.

I don’t know why we didn’t take a flier, but I’m giving AA a pass on this one. But it’s pretty disappointing.

Haven’t read much recently but before the recent dead period I know there were some quotes from Bama sites or reporters who were saying he was unlikely to end up signing there despite his commitment. I still don’t believe it but it does seem to be a rumor that won’t die and it isn’t just coming from supposed insiders from just our side.
