I had a pretty lengthy debate with someone at work about Fandom. How do you choose the professional teams you follow? Location? Native to the area? Length living somewhere?

I think location is the main one. Also, alot of people will follow the teams who their parents cheer for.

Braves - Close, and TBS was the only one showing nightly games back in the day

Steelers - I was a kid back in the 70's. Limited access to TV games. No Titans of course, and I didn't know Atlanta had a team, lol. You either were a Cowboys or Steelers fan back then unless you lived in a NFL city

Location.... I cheer for the Titans because I live in TN.
Braves, location and grew up watching them with my grandparents.

There is an argument for all of these imo but for me, its geography and location. I root for the Titans, and Preds because I live in TN and the Braves because they are the closest non-TN team.

If I moved though, I would still root for those 3 teams and if Nashville gets an MLB team, I will still root for the Braves. Once you are locked in, you are locked in imo.

I chose the Vols because that’s what my dad and I did on Saturday- watched football but cheered for the Vols. I chose the Braves because my grandparents live in ATL and we got to go to games. I chose the Bucs because my older cousin was my super hero when I was a kidand he loved the Bucs (for their uniform 😬). I chose the Preds because my brother and I bonded over them and it was easy to attend a game. I chose the Grizz because @TBrown made it seem much better than the Hawks or Pistons 😉

My dad is from Michigan so hence the Detroit love. The Braves and Vols were my papaw’s favorite teams so I adopted them as well. Vols are in my blood.

I think a lot of it has to be who your family happens to like as your growing up (my grandfather and the Vols). Location/living somewhere plays a role (the turncoat Vader went from Redskins to Cowboys), and why I ended up a Yankees fan.

Outside the WFT and the Yankees, all my favorite teams are in TN (Preds, Grizz, NSC). Titans weren't around when I got into football. Growing up in NY, the first professional sporting event I went to was a Yankees game in 1995.

Outside of baseball and football, I was a casual Knicks and Rangers fan. Once TN got teams however, it was easy to switch to the "home" teams.

Any thoughts on Luis Castillo? I’ve never loved him but I can get him at a steep discount in a dynasty league right now. Pitched against the Braves last week but I didn’t see any of it

I’d bet on the stuff . His expected ERA is more than a run lower than his current era. The hard rate isn’t outrageous. His k rate is lower than the last couple years tho.

Carried good velo all game and change looked good. Don’t totally trust him but for the right price I’d chance it

As a man who loves his hats, I do not understand why a bunch of people have baseball hats with old all star games and World Series patches on the side
