Increased popularity for soccer definitely wouldn’t be a bad thing for the sport but it isn’t even close to biggest hurdle we have to face, there are more than enough kids playing to create a pool from which to draw from. The reason we’ll never catch up to the European and South American countries is because of the development process (or lack thereof, in our case). Unless/until we ever move to a true academy style development program we just aren’t playing the same game.
