The Art of War

It was a different time. Bowl games didn't count. They were considered little more than exhibitions, like maybe the NFL Pro Bowl, or the NBA all star games.

It was a well-earned vacation.

I believe if the bowl games would have counted, we would have put the necessary effort into winning them.

If you read about one of Neylands' teams trips out to the Rose Bowl, they travelled by train, would stop here or there and have a "practice" in front of some town on the train route in a field somewhere. Pretty quaint.

Did not know that.

Do you know when that began to change and maybe why?

Maxims from The Art of War.

Almost all of these seem applicable on the football field and especially that sixth one,
"You can be sure of succeeding [with] your attacks if you only attack the places that are undefended."

You can honestly switch the words enemy with competitor and use these for business. I have always considered business war as every second my business grows another shrinks or vice versus. You find your competitors weakness and then build your business model upon that. If they are weak in customer service u focus on your customer service. If they are weak on their product design you attack that. Never match strength with strength.

Great book!

Now someone needs to start a thread about utilitarianism and how it should apply to recruiting. Just kidding.
