Defense won't blame offense: 'We're a football team. We're family. We try to find good in people rather than digging in sores' : Football : GoVolsXtra.com

Forgive me if this has been mentioned already, but this blows my mind...

If there was a chink in UT's defensive armor, it was the Vols' failure to stop Auburn on a key third-and-five. That conversion allowed the Tigers to run the clock out.

Defensive back DeAngelo Willingham said UT's coaches told him to expect Auburn receiver Montez Billings to run a double move and go deep.

"We weren't expecting them to throw it short," Willingham said of the pass that was thrown at the first down marker.

Considering the struggles that AU was having on offense, plus the fact all they needed was a 1st down, why would they (UT coaching staff) feel like they were going deep? Brilliant coaching once again by Chavis.

“We didn’t change what we were going to do,” Chavis said. “We were going to stop the run. That was the game plan we brought in so we didn’t have to change it.”

There is Chavis in a nutshell, no adjustments ever. Really not needed in this game but that is a very telling statement.

Yea. Never mind what the situation is right now. We should do the exact same thing we did earlier regardless of score/time left.

That was one play that could have gone either way and it went the wrong way...payback for one of this teams good fortunes last season.

No-way I'm even bringing anything on the "D" no matter what. All this falls on Phil and Crompton. Defense shouldn't even had to be in that situation period. When your offense spends the entire second half on the Auburn side of the field and doesn't do crap with the scoreboard, bringing up one play on the "D" is an insult.

No one is blaming it on the d, I was pointing out that it's another gutless call in a long line of gutless calls by Chavis.
