Utah State is moving to fire Blake Anderson.

Seems like there is always a vacancy pop up a month or two before the season starts.

Utah State University officials informed Head Football Coach Blake Anderson on Tuesday of their intent to terminate his employment agreement for actions taken in spring 2023. These actions violated both his employment agreement and university policy. Under his employment agreement Coach Anderson will have 14 days to respond.

This decision comes after a thorough external review of alleged noncompliance with university policies that implement Title IX, which require full and timely reporting of disclosures of sexual misconduct — including domestic violence — and prohibit employees from investigating disclosures of sexual misconduct themselves.

Associate Vice President & Deputy Athletic Director of External Affairs Jerry Bovee (Interim Athletic Director, 2023) and Utah State Football Director of Player Development & Community Austin Albrecht have also been dismissed for violations of university policies related to the reporting of sexual and domestic violence and failures of professional responsibilities.

Who will be the first big coach to get fired this season? I think it will be Billy Napier. Florida loses the opener to Miami. Then gets the easy win against Samford. But then they lose to A&M and if they follow that with a loss to Miss St, which is very possible, I think he's done. Maybe they let him stay through UCF, but if they are 1-3 going into that game, they could easily lose there and have to fire him before he even gets to the Tennessee game. My second guess would be Lincoln Riley. If he gets off to a slow start, I think he's done by midway through the season, and unless he makes the playoffs, I think he is done regardless.

Sam Pittman is on ice every bit as thin as Billy, and he's in an awkward situation because his (potential) successor is his OC (Petrino).

I think Riley is more likely to leave USC than be fired. USC is a blue blood but in its current state isn't a football-crazed, win-at-all-costs program. He also has an estimated $80-90m buyout, which would be even more than what A&M paid Jimbo to go away.

I wonder if they somehow convince Petrino and Pittman to switch places. that would be the best for Arkansas. awkward and no way on earth it actually happens, but who knows these days.

They have found ways to lose to Samford before.

Lincoln Riley, he’s a bum.

Then why would Riley leave….He would be stupid to leave on his own.

Switch paychecks too?

If Arkansas puts Petrino back at head coach after the stunt he pulled, Arkansas deserves every bit of ridicule they are going to get. As you said though, nothing should surprise anybody these days. We are in a different world.

I don't think many would care at this point with how long ago that happened.

Plus in today's world, it'd be old news in no time.

All he has to do is hold onto his job until they play Tennessee, then he will get a raise and an extension.

Good points. I didn't even think about Pittman.

Beamer is on the hot seat too. don't know what his schedule looks like.
They only have 4 games that they should definitely win (Old Dominion, Akron, at Vandy, Wofford). Their other games (at Kentucky, LSU, Ole Miss, at Alabama, at Oklahoma, A&M, Missouri, at Clemson) range between toss-up and definite loss. He needs to go at least 2-6 in those other games in order to make a bowl; I'd say he's circled at Kentucky, A&M, and Missouri as their biggest games this year.

thats a pretty legit schedule, especially for someone on the chopping block.

if it wasn't for the fluke 2022 year he would have been canned already.

Yeah - the last 2 games he played in 2022 are really the only things they've gotten excited about there.

He's not getting an NFL gig.
I bet he does if he wants it. There are normally a half dozen NFL head coach jobs open each year with the possibility of a few NFL blue bloods available in the Giants, Jets, Bears, and Cowboys if they do not exceed expectations. The Bears would be probably the most likely with Caleb Williams already there. Eberflus has not exactly had much to work with, but he does now so this will be his make or break season.
