Sam Pittman is on ice every bit as thin as Billy, and he's in an awkward situation because his (potential) successor is his OC (Petrino).Who will be the first big coach to get fired this season? I think it will be Billy Napier. Florida loses the opener to Miami. Then gets the easy win against Samford. But then they lose to A&M and if they follow that with a loss to Miss St, which is very possible, I think he's done. Maybe they let him stay through UCF, but if they are 1-3 going into that game, they could easily lose there and have to fire him before he even gets to the Tennessee game. My second guess would be Lincoln Riley. If he gets off to a slow start, I think he's done by midway through the season, and unless he makes the playoffs, I think he is done regardless.
I wonder if they somehow convince Petrino and Pittman to switch places. that would be the best for Arkansas. awkward and no way on earth it actually happens, but who knows these days.Sam Pittman is on ice every bit as thin as Billy, and he's in an awkward situation because his (potential) successor is his OC (Petrino).
I think Riley is more likely to leave USC than be fired. USC is a blue blood but in its current state isn't a football-crazed, win-at-all-costs program. He also has an estimated $80-90m buyout, which would be even more than what A&M paid Jimbo to go away.

Then why would Riley leave….He would be stupid to leave on his own.Sam Pittman is on ice every bit as thin as Billy, and he's in an awkward situation because his (potential) successor is his OC (Petrino).

If Arkansas puts Petrino back at head coach after the stunt he pulled, Arkansas deserves every bit of ridicule they are going to get. As you said though, nothing should surprise anybody these days. We are in a different world.I wonder if they somehow convince Petrino and Pittman to switch places. that would be the best for Arkansas. awkward and no way on earth it actually happens, but who knows these days.
I don't think many would care at this point with how long ago that happened. If Arkansas puts Petrino back at head coach after the stunt he pulled, Arkansas deserves every bit of ridicule they are going to get. All he has to do is hold onto his job until they play Tennessee, then he will get a raise and an extension.Who will be the first big coach to get fired this season? I think it will be Billy Napier. Good points. I didn't even think about Pittman.Sam Pittman is on ice every bit as thin as Billy, and he's in an awkward situation because his (potential) successor is his OC (Petrino).

They only have 4 games that they should definitely win (Old Dominion, Akron, at Vandy, Wofford). Their other games (at Kentucky, LSU, Ole Miss, at Alabama, at Oklahoma, A&M, Missouri, at Clemson) range between toss-up and definite loss. He needs to go at least 2-6 in those other games in order to make a bowl; I'd say he's circled at Kentucky, A&M, and Missouri as their biggest games this year.Beamer is on the hot seat too. don't know what his schedule looks like.
thats a pretty legit schedule, especially for someone on the chopping block. They only have 4 games that they should definitely win (Old Dominion, Akron, at Vandy, Wofford). I bet he does if he wants it. There are normally a half dozen NFL head coach jobs open each year with the possibility of a few NFL blue bloods available in the Giants, Jets, Bears, and Cowboys if they do not exceed expectations. The Bears would be probably the most likely with Caleb Williams already there. Eberflus has not exactly had much to work with, but he does now so this will be his make or break season. He's not getting an NFL gig.
