... was a bullet.

I of course admit to a certain sense of smug self-satisfaction today. Trust me, all of your rival fans do. I must say, however, that I always thought that the Lane Train would chug out of Knoxville on the heels of either an NCAA mushroom cloud on the horizon or Kiffin finally saying something so ridiculous that Vols fans woke up and asked "Who, exactly, is this jerk?"

So we detractors were wrong. It wasn't his mouth that got him in trouble. Its his ego that is going to be his undoing.

Now, I realize that his sudden departure three weeks before signing day, and taking his bunch with him, is going to leave you in the lurch. It is going to suck for you, and mightily. But not forever.

If this little episode doesn't convince you of the fact that it is inevitable that Kiffin's swagger is going to be exposed for the empty rhetoric that it is, and probably much sooner than later, I don't know what would. Consider: He is leaving a place where he is revered as the attitude-driven saviour of a program hungry for change and improvement, and going to a place where everyone is sure he's an idiot. He's leaving a program that will give him unlimited resources to build a dynasty, to go run a dynasty everyone knows is on the brink of crisis.

This place? Upbeat and hopeful. That place? Beset with worry and people looking for the exits.

In the end, its Kiffin's ego, pure and simple, driving him to do this. But hey, someone was the president of Enron right before it imploded, right? Until the very last day, someone was buying stock in Pet Rocks, right?

So, as I take some delight this morning in realizing UT fans are now suddenly wide awake as to what a complete tool they hired, I take some solace in knowing that its only a matter of time, and probably a very short time, that UT fans will also realize that they've dodged a pretty nasty bullet.

Everybody in Tennessee has been waiting for your take on it. Thanks for starting yet another thread so that nobody would miss your deathless pearls of wisdom. DIAF.

Also, probably taking some delight that we're now back to square one and 5 years at best from being competitive in the SEC again.

I was trying to give you the silver lining in this, which is that at this point its has to be clear that Kiffin is the ultimate empty suit and you will at least one day have the joy of watching him booted out of LA, yet again.

Lawgator, I read your post twice. The first time, I felt the natural reaction of wanting to say "screw you!" because that's what I almost always think when I read your posts. But then I read your post again and realized I agree with everything you wrote. The Vols will be back, probably sooner than most fans think.

Today is not the day to stir the pot LG. Show some character, and dont try to mask that smirk on your face by claiming "Im trying to unveil a silver lining."

Yeah, Vols fans everywhere are just the spitting image of "upbeat" and "excited about the future" right now while USC fans I'm sure are distraught over obtaining the best coaching staff in college football. Makes perfect sense now that I think about it.

I think folks aren't reading the whole post. They are only seeing the "told ya so" moment and not realizing that I'm saying that UT will have its revenge on Kiffin, if not on the field at least in the sense that they will get to watch him crash and burn on the west coast.

This. Don't you have your own unstable coaching situation to worry about, lg? Never mind...don't answer that, just stfu and exit stage left. Thanks.

But at any rate, I do stand by what I say that Kiffin was always a jerk, we suspected it at first and he proved it to us, and now you see through the charade, as well.

LG, in no way can you knock anyone for supporting their team. The previous coaching staff, albeit in loud fashion, had a lot to get VN excited about. They coached well in games and recruited their socks off. We all knew he was a loud-mouthed guy, but VN wasn't going to sit around and pout because their coach called out meyer or complain that UF fans didn't like our coach. We did what any fan base would do: support the staff and the team. It is easy for you to sit at your computer and call us ignorant, but we did nothing different than what any other fan would do.

The problem is that no one gives a damn about your opinion. The sooner your realize that and go away, the better,

BS. You're not trying to give us any silver lining, you're here to gloat:

So, as I take some delight this morning in realizing UT fans are now suddenly wide awake as to what a complete tool they hired,

Look, what did you expect us to do? He was the coach of our team. Meyer's personal character flaws are as abundantly manifest as Kiffin's, but you Gators ignore them because he wins. Many of us ground our teeth and tried to ignore Kiffin's because we wanted to win too. Kentucky basketball fans are up there right now enthusiastically supporting a man whom everybody in the country knows is a scumbag. What exactly else are you supposed to do as a fan?

I don't know who Tennessee's next coach is going to be, but I already know that I'llll try like hell to support the guy, and be optimistic about what he's doing, and defend him when rival fans sneer about him until he absolutely proves otherwise. That's what I did with Kiffin; that's what I'll do with any Tennessee coach. I make no apologies for that.

I'm glad the wise gator has bestowed his wisdom on us. We were wandering lost in the dark until someone from such a superior program decided to shine light on our situation. Whatever would we do without you...

You can take it as gloating if you want, can't help that. And indeed as I said there is a satisfaction in the fact that those of us who were so critical of him have been proven right in such stunning fashion. I won't lie and say otherwise.

Certainly you don't expect us to tell you it wasn't foolish to have believe his tripe? You cannot seriously think we don't take some pleasure, not just in being proven right, but in it being at your expense?

At the same time, why is it so hard to believe that a rational person can also see that, wherever Kiffin goes, it ends up blowing up in someone's face? I really think in the end you'll be better off for having him get out of Dodge. And when USC comes crashing down around him, I fully expect it will be UT fans, who got duped in the process, out leading the "I told you so" parade that day.

What is this nonsense? It has always been obvious that he's a loudmouth. Nobody on this board thought he was a great guy. We were willing to put up with a jerk because we hoped he'd be a good coach, and that's exactly what he turned out to be. That was the best-coached team Tennessee has fielded in years. There's no moment of revelation here; Kiffin turned out to be exactly what we thought he was. We all knew he was using us as a career steppingstone from the beginning. It's just that, thanks to a weird series of events, he got the phone call about three or four years before anybody thought he would.

Of course not. And whenever Meyer's weird narcissitic denoument comes around, whether it's leaving you guys stuck with Addazio because he's gone on a Himalayan sabbatical, or a sex scandal involving a string of 23 year old grad students, or whatever is, we'll take pleasure at your expense. And when Calipari gets Kentucky on probation or gets yet another Final Four vacated, we'll have fun at theirs.

I can tell you, however, that I won't be posting on either a Florida or Kentucky message board the next morning doing a little dance about how I was right and you guys are idiots, nyanny nyanny boo boo.
