TFP is reporting Gruden has an offer but staff a hang up

This is a great comment I found from someone on another board, People please read this and get off the Gruden wagon

Here we see again that the Gruden dream just won't die. This guy plays around with teams every offseason to get ESPN to come up with some more cash for him OR to get the best NFL coaching job available. Any Tennessee fan who actually wants a guy like that to be coaching his team gets what's coming to them. Even if he came to Knoxville (he's not, I don't believe it whatsoever), each offseason would be a 'will he or won't he' circus about the NFL head coaching offers. You don't want the head coach of the University of Tennessee Football team to be constantly looking for something better. The fans who care about the tradition and history of this team want a coach who wants to be here, who wants this to be their dream job. If Gruden was hired, you're gonna see another ridiculous burning mattress tirade by people in Knoxville in January 2014 when Gruden accepts an NFL coaching gig and leaves the Vols in another horrible position.

If you can't afford a top dollar staff then don't offer Jon Gruden. I could see this being a "we went for the best but couldn't make a deal" thing. Public knows we offered so now if he turns it down the fan base at least knows errr thinks he tried.

I agree with you. And agree with the few people that are thinking that Gruden is just fishing to keep interest on him up. Even trying to make outrages requests to either avoid making the decision or seeing who the biggest sucker is. At some pt Hart might realize the game being played and just moving on. Which pisses me off cause this PR move engulfed the program early and IMO it hurt our season in a negative way.

There is no guarantee except one, you have to pay to play in the big boy league!

Pay to play doesn't guarentee wins though. So if Hart has doubt that the amount Gruden is wanting is or isnt worth it then he has to make that decision. Sorry to all y'all Grudenites but he may be a home run hire but not a guranteed win hire. Not even the biggest of Grudenites would bet the house on it...their own not someone else's. Patterson is probably the best combo of both and there's a .0000...01 chance of him leaving FTW. Especially when he's apparently making 3.4 a yr.
