Just dropped $512 bucks, and one of my books I needed was sold out, so now I get to wait to spend $160 more.

How in the world can they justify charging that much? Other than they know we are going too buy them no matter what, but I mean jeez, come on.

This isn't my first semester doing this, but for whatever reason it seemed like more this go around. Gah.

I work at a textbook store and could explain you the economics of it if I wasn't so freaking tired.

If only you knew a "hook-up" at one of the big publishing houses that could give you the .pdf files of these books for $20 each... :whistling:

Just buy the edition that came out before. There are very minor differences between one edition and the other; it can be a difference of paying $100 or $2. Hell, I just paid $50 for all my books this semester, and most of that was for shipping. The textbook industry is a racket.

It's a racket you contribute to.

there are dozens of way to get out of the bookstores scamming you. amazon is easy, half.com, friends that have the book already or as a last resort, just buy back the books from people in the class the semester before you. They are likely to maybe get ten bucks back, so if you offer $20, you're still saving about $80 minimum.

at you pretending they don't since you work there.

I know more about this business than you and I guarantee they aren't scamming anyone. By the way when you buy from Amazon and half you are contributing to 1) the used bookstore businesses and 2) the prices of textbooks rising for bookstores and in turn for you.
